Hay fever season can be particularly uncomfortable for the eyes.
A few things that may help:
• Cold compresses to soothe irritated eyes
• Lubricating eye drops to help wash away allergens
• Keeping windows closed on high pollen days
• Wearing sunglasses outdoors to reduce pollen exposure
• Avoiding rubbing the eyes, which can make irritation worse
If symptoms are persistent, uncomfortable or affecting your vision, it is always worth getting in touch to see if we can offer additional advice, in particular if you also wear contact lenses.

Only the best from Anne et Valentin ❤️
For Stephen’s latest pair he has gone for model ‘O Quiet’ from the fabulous French brand. A perfect round, curvy bridge, classic yet just quirky enough. In this shade of raspberry red, we think this was the perfect fit for Stephen.
A little bit David Hockney inspired - an artist and eyewear icon who sadly passed away last week, so seems fitting to honour him with this nod to his iconic eyewear style.

Children’s eyes need protection from the sun too ☀️🕶️
It’s this time of year that many of us consciously ensure our children are well protected in the sun, regularly applying suntan lotion whenever they are exposed to UV. However, UV exposure can also affect the eyes and, because children’s eyes are still developing, more UV light reaches the back of the eye compared to adults. Over time, repeated exposure may contribute to eye conditions later in life, including cataracts and macular damage.
Good quality sunglasses with full UV protection can help protect young eyes while keeping children comfortable on bright days.
Any sunglasses with a proper UV protection label (look out for theCE quality mark). This is important even if you are wearing contact lenses with a UV filter, because the sunglasses will help protect the skin around your eyes, as well as the eye itself.are absolutely fine, they do not need to be expensive. Larger styles can offer better protection for the delicate area around the eyes and a hat provides another helpful layer of protection too.
If your child wears prescription glasses, prescription sunglasses can also be a great option, allowing them to swap easily between the two depending on what they are doing.

Glow big or go home! 🌟
One of our lovely patients attended a light show at Edinburgh Castle recently and someone pointed out he was glowing in his new eyewear… Quite literally!
Model Ray from Kirk & Kirk in colour Apple is a stunning bright green even in daylight, but totally luminous at night!
Thank you for sharing Jim! We absolutely love seeing photos of you out and about in your Frame Room eyewear so please send any our way at [email protected] 👋

As Scotland’s football team prepares for the World Cup, players will be focused not just on fitness and skill, but on vision too ⚽ Elite sport depends on far more than simply “seeing clearly”.
Visual processing, reaction speed, depth perception, tracking and coordination all play a role in performance on the pitch. In fast moving sports, the brain and eyes need to work together quickly and efficiently.
Many people aren't aware of our Sports Vision Clinic - which is primarily accessed by Scotland's finest sports people, but appointments are available to all. Our behavioural optometrist, Emma Drewery, has specialist expertise in sports vision, helping athletes optimise visual skills required for high performance sport.
For some people, improving visual performance can help provide an extra edge in sport and daily life alike.
🏴Good luck Scotland!

Last but definitely not least in our Meet the Admin team series of posts, we have Jane Johnston, our admin assistant and database guru.
Jane first began working in eye care in 1992, but then stepped out of optics, going on to build a career across various roles within the rail industry.
She later returned to education, completing a degree in psychology at Queen Margaret University. After graduating, Jane came back to optics, initially as a short-term step, but quickly rediscovered her passion for the profession and has been part of the Cameron Optometry team ever since.
Jane typically wears contact lenses but always keeps a pair of glasses as a backup. When she does choose frames, comfort is key, with a preference for lightweight, understated styles from brands such as Lindberg and SALT.
Her advice to patients is simple and practical. If you have an eye emergency, please call the practice. If you are experiencing discomfort, taking your usual over-the-counter pain relief can help while you arrange to be seen.
What Jane enjoys most about her role is the team. The practice is a place where people work hard, support one another, and genuinely enjoy spending time together, both in and out of work.

Meet the Team: Natalie Smith
Natalie is Cameron Optometry’s Tear Clinic Technician, specialising in dry eye care and treatment.
Over the past two years, Natalie has undertaken ongoing training with our Tear Clinic lead, Gillian Bruce, alongside extensive online learning, to deepen her understanding of dry eye disease and the treatments we offer. She plays a key role in the patient journey, from initial phone consultations where she discusses symptoms and concerns, through to delivering tailored treatments within the clinic.
Natalie has a particular interest in the hands-on side of the role, carrying out treatments such as Low Level Light Therapy and Zest, with IPL soon to be introduced. She finds it especially rewarding to see real, immediate improvements in patients’ comfort and eye health.
When it comes to eyewear, Natalie loves Anne et Valentin, especially the bold colours, although she always finds herself drawn back to classic tortoise shell frames.
Her advice to patients is to ask questions. With clinics constantly evolving and new technologies being introduced, the team is always happy to talk through options so you feel informed and confident in your eye care.
What Natalie enjoys most about her role is making a tangible difference. Seeing patients feel the benefit of treatment and improve day to day is what drives her.
She also focuses on making every appointment feel relaxed. No question is too small, and she is always happy to talk things through so patients feel comfortable and supported throughout their treatment journey.

New scrubs AND new specs 🥳
Our lovely Mae in her new Kirk & Kirk glasses - model Hana in colour Earth. A layered brown with a blue underneath, a palette that shines in their incredible signature acrylic material.
