The theme of Art UK 's this week is to mark the start of Edinburgh International Festival. We have chosen this painting of Motor Fifies at Pittenweem by James Gilmour as it is also the week of the Pittenweem Arts Festival .
James Gilmour (1885-1937) was a lithographer by trade who started a printing business in Glasgow in 1906. The company at that time specialized in fine art calendars and so he often used his own paintings for the calendars. The bulk of his watercolour work was of fishing villages and boats in the harbour in the East Neuk of Fife, although later in life he also painted still lifes.
