We can now take card payments @ Ratho library so there's no excuse for not getting your food caddy bin liners from us. Only £1 a roll
We also recycle your household batteries and provide free hearing aid batteries for anyone with an NHS hearing aid. Just bring your Audiology yellow book with you when collecting.

Alistair Moffat, celebrated Scottish historian, author, and journalist known for bringing landscape and local history to life, will be joining us at Ratho library Sat 23 May 3pm to 4pm

Although this is a free ticked event. please feel free to drop in.

Prolific social Historian and Edinburgh favourite, Alistair Moffat, joins us at Ratho Library to discuss The Secret History of Here: A Year in the Valley. In this journal-style novel, set in the heart of the Scottish Borders, Moffat explores the history of the place that surrounds his home, but through his insights, invites all to witness the rich history that encompasses us all.

EIBF Paper Trails x Ratho Library: Elle McNicoll – Caring About The Pa at Ratho library 20/05/2026

This Saturday at Ratho library 11am. We have Elle McNicoll coming along to host an author event about her prize winning childrens novel "A Kind Of Spark" in place of our usual morning craft session although, for younger children, we will still have a mini craft available.

This is a free ticketed event but please feel free to just drop in.

Change historical narratives with author Elle McNicoll as she delves into the Scotland's history of the witch trails and the victims of this dark era. In the 2021 Waterstones Children's Book Prize-Winning novel, A Kind of Spark, 11-year-old protagonist Addie, campaigns for a memorial in memory of the witch trails that took place in her hometown. Join Elle for an inspiring event on empowerment and making your voice heard in your community!

Monday marks the start of our Paper Trails mini festival with Edinburgh International Book Festival!

EIBF is bringing a series of captivating events right to the heart of Ratho, exploring all things history! In particular; how is history memorialised? How can we engage with local history? How do we understand history through fiction?

There will be events suitable for all ages, including a spellbinding event with children's author Elle McNicoll, and three captivating adult events featuring Mary Paulson-Ellis, Alistair Moffat, Claire Mitchell & Zoe Venditozzi.
