Designing with Data. Design Informatics is a joint venture between the School of Informatics at the U

Design Informatics focuses on designing with data and sees designers work alongside
programmers, computer scientists and entrepreneurs to help build new products and
services, including the next generation of social media tools. The Centre runs three strands: teaching, research and a Resident Entrepreneurs programme.

In 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe , Design Informatics members will present a series of lightning talks as part of The Provocateurs talks programme, which blends controversial academic research, audience interaction, a dash of comedy and takes place at Edinburgh’s World Famous The Stand Comedy Club, Edinburgh .

Hosted by comedian Ria Lina. Dr Chris Elsden from the Design Informatics at The University of Edinburgh reveals kids’ attitudes to money from piggy banks to pocket money apps. Professor Rod Mitchell from Centre for Reproductive Health at The University of Edinburgh finds the funny in testicles, offering hope for children’s cancer and infertility.

Dr Michael Stirrat from the Edinburgh Napier University explores what we actually know about the psychology of gaslighting in relationships.

We are delighted to share this special edition of our Newsletter which features all our upcoming Edinburgh Summer Festival’s programming as part of the 2025 Edinburgh Art Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe .

We will host two exhibitions, Tipping Point and Authenticity Unmasked, featuring ten newly commissioned artworks inviting festival audiences to discover the role artists are playing in navigating the evolving landscapes of AI, taking place at Inspace and Informatics Forum.
