Two very different artworks to come through our framing studio recently. One is an editioned Ai Weiwei Dragon print, the other is a portrait of a clients late pet, by our good friend Columbine Hobart.

Both were framed with the same premium moulding, with different mountboards from the same premium black core range. The dragon was glazed with TruVue AR-UV92; an ultra-clear anti-reflective glass that blocks 92% of damaging UV light. The dog was glazed with TruVue Museum Glass; the top of the range ultra-clear anti-reflective glass that blocks 99% of damaging UV light. These photos were taken in our framing workshop, which has bright overhead lighting and white walls. It's normally impossible to photograph glazed artworks in here without some serious reflections going on, but with the TruVue glass, that's just not the case. The Museum Glass is so clear and non reflective, it's difficult to tell if it's even there!

We have been working tirelessly over the past year, to increase and improve our range of picture framing options. We now offer a range of over 2,000 new picture framing mouldings, alongside custom finished, custom painted, and even custom made mouldings.
We have quadrupled the number of mountboard solutions we offer too, introducing hundreds of vibrant new colours alongside all of our old favourites, a new low cost budget range of blacks and whites, and new extra thick boards for that premium look.
For glazing, we have extended our range to include Tru-Vue UltraVue® AR UV92 Glass, and Tru-Vue Museum® Glass to protect the more valuable artworks with their UV blocking and anti-reflective properties. We still offer the regular float glass, and diffused anti-glare glass we always have, too.
Want to frame it yourself? We’ve just recently introduced a range of ready made frames in sizes from postcard up to A3. Unlike mass produced frames, ours come with a real mountboard, not paper and are glazed with 2mm float glass, not cheap plastic.

A recent framing job we've done. A large piece like this deserves a large moulding. The client will be hanging the work in a period property that has been decorated in a bright and contemporary fashion, so we suggested this one, which we then custom painted in a specially mixed sunshine yellow.
The poster is a real film poster, (so not printed on heavy art paper) and had been folded, becoming wrinkled, torn, and damaged in the process. So the first thing we had to do was very carefully flatten it, and mount it to a stable background.
Once that was done, we could begin the work of building and painting the frame and then finally putting the piece in it.
Not by any means the largest frame we've ever made, but certainly not the smallest. Glamorous assistant for scale.

NEW IN!

These beautiful walking sticks new in from Stickfactory’s own workshops, are made by putting together layers of different coloured woods, resulting in vivid colour contrasts and patterns. Once laminated, they are carved, shaped, sanded, and polished to a fine finish by hand.

Each one is is a work of art in itself, with its own unique combination of locally sourced hardwoods including ash, birch, beech, elm, maple, oak, sycamore and yew (OK, yes we know yew technically isn’t a hardwood), along with some more exotic reclaimed timbers such as mahogany, sapele and teak. All are fitted with replaceable non-slip ferrules at the feet, and the handles are pinned through with solid brass rivets for extra strength.

Deliberately made on the long side, any of these sticks can be shortened to suit your own particular needs, at no extra cost.
