It's a been a long, hot day. Tiring, and I'm in a funk for a lot of reasons. But when I have a day like that it always works to reach for the guitar so tonight I found my muse and added a another verse to the song I've been writing with Emily River Thomson. It's my first co-write and the experience has been so fun! βΊοΈπ€ πΈ

If you'd like to view my presentation from the International Country Music Conference in Nashville last month, I've uploaded it to YouTube. This afternoon, I finished the edits of the book chapter on which this presentation is based. The book I contributed to is due to be published by Bloomsbury later this year and features some talented colleagues doing great research with an international perspective. I'll share more details when I have them.

Well, right now I should be on site preparing for the gates to open at a music festival featuring UK and international acts, many of them close friends. It was a year in the planning, and a joint celebration of eighteen years of radio broadcasting. Blood, sweat and tears went into it, but in the end the powers that be let us down. So instead I'm sat at home with a coffee surrounded by my music and wondering what's next? Certainly feels like a crossroads.

Some important news from Ben's Country Music Show.
β οΈ Important Announcement: 18th Anniversary Event Cancelled β οΈ
It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the cancellation of our 18th Anniversary Celebration, originally planned for this Friday, 12th June.
Unfortunately, we were informed this evening that due to unforeseen circumstances, one of our main featured artists is no longer able to travel to the UK. Because of this, we didn't feel it would be right to proceed with the evening as planned.
We want to send a massive thank you to everyone who planned on joining us this Friday, and to our incredible listeners far and wide who have supported the show over the last 18 years on air.
You can continue to listen to the show weekly on your favourite local radio station or online anytime at benscountrymusicshow.com

A beautiful day yesterday at Chappel Hill. Exploring the archives of and discovering the George Hamilton IV collection. Plus, found the famous campus wishing well and the sign dedicating the oldest College in America. Loved the beautiful campus, the old Southern houses and the town. Even got some more ice cream! ππΊπΈπ€ π€
The phrase "Elvis has left the building" feels very appropriate.
Bob Harris has been my broadcasting hero, a radio "North Star" if you will, since I was a child. Listening to early editions of his country show, I learnt so much about what it is to be a radio presenter and to engage with your audience. I like to think I modelled a lot of my style on Bob. When I began my first radio show back in 2008, there was Bob on the BBC and there was me. Very few other people were doing country radio in the UK in the way that we did, and it's born out in the fact Bob's show has been on air 27 years and mine for 18.
Wishing you all the best with your health issues and road to recovery. In that sense you've always been an advocate not only for music, but also for men's health which is a very important topic.
Congrats on a wonderful career Bob, yours is the job I always dreamed I wanted. A true broadcasting legend β¨π«
