Orlock Locksmith

A handyman had been asked to paint this door.

Unfortunately he painted everything but the handles. The locking mechanism and hinges were coated in thick grey paint and the owner had tried to remove it with paint stripper which turned some of the paint gloopy and jelly-like which then got into the locking mechanism and jammed it up.

To add to that, the door was warped and bowed to a shallow C-shape.

I adjusted the door and replaced the mechanism and it's now usable/lockable again.

A customer wanted me to install a night latch. He's the singer in a metal band and he said it had to be black. This one is blacker than Black Sabbath 🤘

Not what I needed today.

Luckily the back rail didn't extend all the way up to the bend and I managed to straighten it out... (Mostly).

The door had been jammed shut since the customer bought the place a few years ago. It's working perfectly now.

I took this ancient mechanism out of a door and the metal casing around the deadbolts crumbled away.

Time for a new one

I've seen quite a few customers get ripped off by these guys. One customer was intimidated and charged £900 for a lockout. They didn't even change the lock and left a big hole in her door.

View from the office this morning.

I replaced a broken horizontal mortice at the reception of Tantallon Castle.

Another Hooply lock but this time in a much worse condition.

The only key had snapped and got stuck in the lock. It was a dimple lock and the keys are thicker and harder to snap than a normal key. The security escutcheon didn't make matters easier.

I eventually got the door open but the inside of the mechanism is so rusty and grimy that it has seized solid.

I changed out this broken Hooply lock on a fire door today.
