The owner of this lovely condition Z1 took it to their local BMW main dealer for an MOT and service which they proceeded to fail it for two defects, an incorrect headlight beam pattern and no offside rear fog lamp working which is how the car was presented.
They were then told that there was nothing they could do as the headlights were for LHD cars so suggested using beam pattern stickers (the sort you can buy for when travelling abroad) and also suggested the fitment of an additional aftermarket fog lamp by an auto electrician which was not something they could help with.

Frustrated., the owner was recommended by a colleague to contact us for help.
As with several other 80’s BMW’s that have a projector lens for the headlights, they have adjustment slots to allow the beam image to be changed to suit driving on the left or right so they were duly adjusted to give the required beam pattern.
As for the rear fog lamp, the Z1 was actually sold new in the UK and a 2 min browse of the parts catalogue revealed a RH tail lamp available with the required fog lamp which was available new from BMW in Germany and was plug and play with no additional wiring required.
A clean advisory free MOT pass was then possible.

A round of maintenance including some upgrades for this Sakhir orange F83 M4.
The rear subframe bolts on the F8x M car platform are beginning to become an issue with them corroding due to water retention so much so that BMW have issued a revised bolt to prevent this from happening which can lead to failure of the bolt and the rear subframe working loose.
The other round of works included common wear and tear items such as a corroded and snapped rear coil spring and a worn differential rubber mount so this was tackled with a a new pair of genuine BMW springs and an twin rear differential mount and bushes followed up with a DCT gearbox oil service.
