As we enter the summer months, the Winton Library Garden is truly flourishing - bright greens and pops of colour are everywhere you look! The tiny pond in the centre is literally buzzing with insect life, and these tiny pollinators are so important to our ecosystem. πŸ¦‹ June is also a great month to spot bee activity - click through to the end of our image carousel to see some bee-themed reads. 🐝For adults, 'Gardening for Wildlife' is our non-fiction pick for this month; and for young scientists, 'The Observologist' will have them looking at the outside world with new eyes! In fiction there's 'The History of Bees' and 'The Beekeeper of Aleppo'. Which bee-themed titles have we missed? 🍯

Welcome to June at Winton Library! We've got some fantastic new displays for you. πŸ“š It's National Crime Reading Month, so books about mysteries, murder and meticulous plots are taking centre stage! πŸ•΅οΈπŸ” Would you enjoy a spot of cosy crime, a gritty contemporary police drama, or a slice of classic Golden Age crime fiction? June is the perfect month to find out!
It's also Pride Month, when we celebrate the contributions of members of the LGBTQ+ community to literature and culture more widely. Why not pick up a book by Alan Bennett, Graham Norton or Tove Jansson?

We're nearly half-way through the 2026 National Year of Reading, so whatever you're interested in, we'll have a book to fit.

Another great Pebble Painting session took place in the Winton Library Garden today. Thanks so much to our Garden Volunteers for organising this. We had artists of all ages in attendance, and the results are now proudly on display in our Pebble Garden! πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨πŸ–ŒοΈπŸŽ¨πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ¨

Happy Bank Holiday Monday! 🌼This is the last week of May, and it's also Half Term, so we'll have plenty of craft activities out all week to keep kids entertained and off their screens. And if they haven't already, they can get stuck into our Library Legends challenge and start winning stickers 🌟🀩🌟
For the young-at-heart, Ross will once again be hosting our monthly Local History Group: get together to share memories and learn more about Dorset (or indeed, Hampshire 🧐) in days gone by. If you know anyone with an interest in the local area, why not share this post with them? We'd appreciate it!
On Saturday 30th, all ages can enjoy another of our popular Pebble Painting sessions with the Winton Library Garden Volunteers. 🎨 If the weather is fine, we hope this will take place outside in the sunny garden. 🌞
However you spend your week, we hope you'll have time to sit down for five minutes with a good book. And if you don't have a book to hand? You know where to find us πŸ˜‰

On Tuesday 26 May, we've got our Local History meeting, which is free to all! β³β˜• I'll be honest, I don't know what the theme is this month - but May is Local and Community History Month, so it will probably be really good... πŸ˜„ Come along for a friendly chat and a chance to browse through our archives. Learn more about the Winton area and feel connected to your community.

All this week at Winton Library, we are celebrating Elmer the Patchwork Elephant! 🟨πŸŸͺ🐘πŸŸ₯🟩 Millions of children around the world have read and loved Dave McKee's stories about this colourful fellow, who spreads a message of inclusivity and friendship. We will have drop-in crafts available throughout the week! Our card making workshop on Thursday is currently fully booked, but there will be plenty of other fun activities to try. βœ‚οΈ
All our usual weekly activities will be running as usual, including Junior Chess Club on Saturday; and our Garden Volunteers will also be here, if weather permits.
Hope to see you soon!

On Saturday 30 May we've got one of our creative Pebble Painting sessions - this will be outside in the sunny Library Garden if the weather is nice, or inside in the lovely warm library if it's not! 🌦️ Suitable for all ages - just turn up between 10.30 and 12.30, and our Garden Volunteer team will provide you with paints and pebbles. πŸ–ŒοΈ Your colourful painted pebble can then join our display in the garden, or come home with you!πŸ“πŸΈπŸŒžπŸŒ·
