Why you need to visit Eunpyeong Hanok Village in Seoul 🇰🇷

This area is so quiet and a much more enjoyable experience compared to the busy Bukchon Hanok Village.

It’s actually a new residential neighbourhood, so the homes are styled on the traditional Hanok village but it was built in 2013. In comparison, the famous Bukchon Hanok Village was built in the 1930’s but it’s incredibly crowded there. Definitely still visit both, but I really liked the atmosphere here because of the mountains.

What really put this village on the map is the insta-famous Irin Iljan Cafe. Make sure you head to the rooftop for the best views, then try and get a window seat at one of the cafes. There’s actually a few cafes across different levels.

The absolute highlight for me though was the incredibly colourful Jingwansa Temple. It’s just a 15min walk from the cafe.

GETTING THERE:
I took a 40min Uber for only US$11. Uber is incredibly affordable in South Korea and often a lot quicker than public transport.

GETSEMANI, CARTAGENA
An artistic & bohemian neighbourhood, known for street art, colourful decorations & lively nightlife.

Must see:
🌼 Plaza de la Trinidad: lots of locals gather here at night to for live music & food stalls. This was such a vibe!
🌼 Just wander the streets for colourful alleyways & murals

GUATAPE, DAY TRIP FROM MEDELLIN
Do not miss this, just 2hrs from Medellin.

Must see:
🌷El Peñol: climb the 740 step staircase up the massive rock for panoramic views of the lake below.
🌷Guatape Town: a truly vibrant town!

COMUNA 13, MEDELLIN
Once considered one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods in Colombia, it’s now a thriving tourism destination. You can take community-led tours but they were all in Spanish when we visited.

Must see:
🪷 Vibrant street art
🪷 Local breakdance performances
🪷 Outdoor escalator system built into the hillside. Before this, locals would need to climb the equivalent of a 28-storey building to reach their homes!
🪷 Food stalls
🪷 Sweeping city views

EL POBLADO, MEDELLIN
The most popular neighbourhood for tourists. This was a great location to base ourselves, all within a short walk of great restaurants, shopping & nightlife.

Must see:
🪻Provenza: this street is closed to traffic & filled with stylish cafes, rooftop bars & boutiques.
🪻Parque Lleras: another restaurant & nightlife area with so many trees you feel like you’re in an urban forest.

SALENTO
One of Colombia’s most charming towns!

Must see:
🌺 Calle Real: the town’s iconic colourful street filled with cafés & artisan shops.
🌺 Mirador de Salento: climb the stairs here for the best view of town.
🌺 Coffee farm tour: learn how Colombia’s world-famous coffee is grown & produced
🌺 Cocora Valley hike: home to the world’s tallest palm trees, over 60m tall!
🌺 Filandia: Cute, colourful town 40min drive away

✨ Walk around the old town and admire the architecture. There’s lots of great boutiques and art galleries, especially around Pedlar Street and Church Street.

✨ Walk the rampart circuit from the Galle Fort Clock Tower to Galle Lighthouse.

✨ Visit the lighthouse at sunrise.

✨ Drive 20min to explore the beaches at Unawatuna.
