🎙
The prologue is finished and it was a great experience. It was kind of tricky to now get everything in a proper stage, proper prologue. I made a few mistakes. But again, for me the hardest is to judge the speed and the pace I can go. But, we’ll get there. Tomorrow will be definitely quite tricky to find the right speed and the balance. It’s going to be a long day.

Matthias Walkner (AUT) #402 Can-Am Maverick T3, SSV category

🎙
It was a super nice prologue. To be honest, I really, really enjoyed it. The terrain is really cool. It reminded me a little bit of Lommel, like Falkenswaard, when you have the deep sand, the deep ruts. I won the SSV category. I’m 10th overall between the T3 and T1 guys. So I’m quite happy and I’m looking forward for tomorrow and I hope more of this cool stuff is coming.

Michal & Julita Maluszynsky (POL) #206, Toyota Hilux, Ultimate category

🎙
💬We’ve just finished the first stage. Maybe we’re not super happy with it, but it’s our first stage in this car, so the important thing is that we made it to the finish. Tomorrow we’ll push harder. So far, we were fourth, although I don’t know if anything has changed in the standings. If it stays that way, we’d be very happy.

💬Yes, the stage was enjoyable, although, as Michał said, we were a bit stressed and nervous, especially me. So I think tomorrow, on the longer stage, it will simply feel easier, because all that tension from the beginning will have gone. Basically, we’re just looking forward to tomorrow. I think tomorrow will probably have a big say in the overall outcome of the rally, so we’ll see. We’ll do our best to drive as well as we can. But as I said, this is our first start in a different car, so we’re doing everything we can to make it as good as possible.

🎙
Okay, so we can officially state that the Baja Poland has started, and we’ve just done a prologue that was around 8 km, and so far we are second, or at least second, between ultimate cars. Some fast drivers with side-by-sides coming, and I think this track can be a little bit for better for them, more beneficial. Going first on the track, we needed to open the road, but okay, I have a feeling I’ve been here several times, so I understand more or less what to expect. But for me it felt like no power, because this sand, I mean, it’s really sucking the car, and the car does not want to go. Otherwise, you know, looking forward, and tomorrow Baja starts.

AKPOL Baja Poland 2026, Prologue (FIA, SSV)

Austrian Matthias Walkner (a former motorbike racer, winner and multiple podium-finisher at the Dakar Rally) completely dominated the prologue in the production SSV class on his BRP Can-Am Maverick XRS Turbo RR. He won the prologue in his group, finishing 14 seconds ahead of the Portuguese Paulo Jorge Rodrigues (BRP Can-Am Maverick R), and also finished tenth overall.

Matthias Walkner has a good track record in Polish races this year. In May, he won the Baja Europe in the SSV category, and is now getting to know Poland’s premier cross-country rally – the Baja Poland.

Prologue (FIA, SSV)*
1. Walkner/Pyerin (BRP Can-Am) 7:45.0
2. Rodrigues P./Mota (BRP Can-Am) +14.0
3. Kapanoğlu/Trendafilov (BRP Can-Am) +32.7
4. Kuś E./Szymański (BRP Can-Am) +34.2

AKPOL Baja Poland 2026, Prologue (FIA, Challenger)

Polish crews (all on Ta**us T3 Max) took the first four positions in the T3 group’s lightweight prototype classification. Adam Kuś, one of the leaders in the Polish national championship, was the fastest both in his group and in the overall prologue classification, finishing 2.3 seconds ahead of Krzysztof Hołowczyc (Mini JCW Rally 3.0i of the Ultimate category). Kuś was therefore the fastest of all competitors today, both in the morning shakedown and in the prologue.

Interesting fact – two crews on the Ta**us T3 Max finished in the Top 5 of the overall standings in the prologue (Adam Kuś won, Bartłomiej Kotwica was fourth).

Prologue (FIA, Challenger)*
1. Kuś/Giemza (Ta**us) 7:23.2
2. Kotwica/Jędrzejewski (Ta**us) +8.3
3. Nasiłowski/Goleniewski (Ta**us) +13.7
4. Kubiczek/Ragiel (Ta**us) +18.9
5. Ekström/Bergkvist (Can-Am) +20.2
* - provisional results
