Yap FM - The Yap State 11th Legislature, together with the Yap State Attorney General and Election Commissioner, held several virtual meetings with election board members in Guam to address citizens’ concerns regarding the upcoming November 3 Election Day procedures, voter requirements, and other election-related matters.

The virtual meetings provided an opportunity for officials and election board members to discuss concerns raised by Yapese constituents residing in Guam and to provide clarification on upcoming election procedures.

As part of the voter assistance initiative, officials are also providing in-person assistance to Yapese constituents in Guam with voter registration, re-registration, and absentee ballot requests.

New voter registration is available for students from Yap who are currently studying in Guam. Students seeking to register must present a valid FSM passport or birth certificate, along with an enrollment letter from their educational institution.

Reregistration services are available for voters whose names have changed and no longer match the names listed on the election master list. Officials will assist voters in addressing these discrepancies and completing the necessary requirements.

Assistance is also available for voters who need help with absentee ballot requests and related procedures.

All participants are reminded to bring their FSM passport and any other necessary supporting documents to ensure they can receive the appropriate assistance.

The initiative reflects the ongoing efforts of Yap State election officials to provide voters residing outside Yap with information and assistance as they prepare to participate in the upcoming election.

Yap FM - Earlier today, October 8th, the Department of Resources and Development, through its Workforce Enrichment Division (WED), convened a meeting with members of the Scholarship Advisory Board on October 8 to discuss preparations for the planned launch of the department’s loan/scholarship program in Spring 2027.

The meeting was led by Director of the Department of Resources and Development, Benard Gorong, and key staff from the Workforce Enrichment Division. The Scholarship Advisory Board brought together representatives from several government agencies, educational institutions, and the private sector, including the Small Business Development Center, Department of Youth and Civic Affairs, Yap Historical Preservation Office, College of Micronesia-FSM – Yap Campus, and private-sector representatives.

The meeting, which began at 10:00 a.m., focused on presenting and discussing proposed plans for the scholarship program with the advisory board ahead of its official launch.

The advisory board’s participation is intended to provide input and perspectives from various sectors as the department continues to develop the program’s framework and implementation plans. Discussions also provided an opportunity for participating agencies and organizations to identify areas for coordination and collaboration in support of the program.

The proposed loan/scholarship program is scheduled for launch in Spring 2027 and is intended to support workforce development and educational opportunities in Yap.

The Department of Resources and Development and the Workforce Enrichment Division will continue working with the Scholarship Advisory Board and participating stakeholders as preparations move forward toward the program’s official launch.

Yap FM - During EpiWeek 39, 415 patient encounters were documented, with Diarrhea remaining on Alert status for the 6th consecutive week.

Diarrhea: This week, 15 diarrheal cases were reported—unchanged from last week—across OPD Main Hospital (9), Tamil CHC (1), Gagil CHC (3), and Ifalik Dispensary (2). Of these, 5 were GI BioFire-tested; all were positive, with a single detection of EAEC in 1 patient and a total of 4 Rotavirus co-infecting with 1 to 5 of the following; Adenovirus (2), Salmonella (1), Clostridioides difficile toxin A/B (1), EAEC (1), EPEC (3), and ETEC (2).

Influenza-Like Illness (ILI): ILI cases have increased for two consecutive weeks but remain below threshold, with 14 reported: OPD Main Hospital (7), Gagil CHC (6), and Ulithi Health Center in Falalop (1). No laboratory tests were conducted this week.

Dengue-Like Illness (DLI): Two DLI cases were reported at OPD Main Hospital this week, with no positive laboratory results.

The Epidemic Curve below shows that the diarrheal outbreak began increasing substantially after EpiWeek 33, peaked at 90 reported cases in Week 35, and has subsequently declined. However, weekly cases remained above the established alert threshold, indicating ongoing transmission and the need for continued surveillance and prevention activities.

Yap FM - A representative from the Department of Youth and Civic Affairs, Fauna Gimots has successfully completed the Youth Leaders for World Tsunami Awareness Day 2026 Online Course, a four-week self-paced programme organized by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

Earlier today, October 7th, she received a Certificate of Participation recognizing her successful completion of all four online learning modules and required learning activities conducted from September 1 through September 30, 2026.

The online course brought together young people between the ages of 14 and 25 from across the Asia-Pacific region, providing participants with an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge of disaster risk reduction, tsunami awareness, preparedness, and youth leadership.

Throughout the four-week programme, participants were introduced to key concepts in disaster risk reduction, including the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030. The course also provided opportunities to analyze disaster case studies from across the Asia-Pacific region and identify lessons that can help communities reduce disaster risks and strengthen resilience.

Participants further explored the importance of preparedness, early warning systems, and evacuation measures in reducing the impacts of disasters and saving lives. The course emphasized the role of timely information, community preparedness, and effective action before, during, and after a disaster.

Another key area of the programme was inclusive and community-based disaster risk reduction, including the concept of Building Back Better. Participants examined how young people can contribute to disaster preparedness and resilience and take meaningful action within their own communities.

As part of the required learning activities, participants also developed a personal Disaster Action Plan addressing key areas such as risk assessment, preparedness, early warning, and recovery.

The Department of Youth and Civic Affairs recognizes the importance of providing young people with opportunities to develop knowledge and skills that can contribute to safer, more prepared, and resilient communities. The successful completion of the UNITAR course represents an important step in strengthening youth participation in disaster risk reduction and tsunami awareness efforts.

Yap FM - The Department of Health Services has launched the Annual 2026 Yap Women Health Week, providing women across Yap with an opportunity to access a range of preventive health screenings and services.

The week-long health campaign began Monday, October 5, and will continue through Friday, October 9. Morning registration is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program is open to women ages 18 years and older and is designed to promote early detection, prevention, and greater awareness of women's health issues.

Throughout the week, participants can access a variety of health services and screenings, including breast cancer screening, diabetes and noncommunicable disease (NCD) screening, mental health screening, oral cancer screening, tuberculosis (TB) screening, immunization, and other health services.

Women are encouraged to register during the morning registration period and take advantage of the services being offered throughout the week.

Regular health screenings play an important role in identifying health concerns at an early stage, when prevention and treatment can be more effective. The Women's Health Week also provides an opportunity for women to learn more about their health and available healthcare services.

The Department of Health Services encourages families and community members to help spread the word and encourage women, including mothers, sisters, daughters, relatives, friends, and coworkers, to participate.

The 2026 Yap Women Health Week reflects the Department of Health Services' continued commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and improving the health and well-being of women throughout Yap.

Yap FM - The Telecommunications Regulation Authority (TRA) delegation paid a courtesy visit to Yap State Governor Francis Itimai on Friday, October 1, at 9:00 a.m. at the Governor’s Conference Room.

The courtesy visit formed part of the TRA delegation’s official visit to Yap State from September 30 to October 3. The engagement allowed the TRA delegation to meet with Governor Itimai and provide an overview of the Authority’s mandate, ongoing activities, and efforts to support the continued development of the telecommunications sector.

During the meeting, the TRA delegation also highlighted the importance of continued coordination and engagement with the Yap State Government and other stakeholders. Discussions covered matters of mutual interest and opportunities to strengthen cooperation on telecommunications services and regulatory efforts within the State.

The courtesy call further served to strengthen the working relationship between the TRA and the Yap State Government and reaffirm the Authority’s commitment to maintaining regular engagement with state leadership and stakeholders.
