The 4th National Hub for Corals for Conservation meeting, convened by the Fiji Ministry of Environment and Climate Change with support from WCS-Fiji, was held at the Grand Pacific Hotel, bringing together government, partners, and stakeholders to review progress on the Draft National Action Plan for Coral Reef Conservation.
During the meeting, cChange presented updates on the development of the National Communications Strategy for Coral Reef Conservation, with Country Director Mafa Wilson highlighting the work carried out through recent Technical Working Group sessions facilitated by cChange.
These consultations are helping ensure the strategy is evidence-based, locally driven, and aligned with ongoing coral reef conservation efforts in Fiji.
The meeting also included presentations on spatial prioritization for the Action Plan, sustainable financing for reef-friendly businesses, and stakeholder updates from the Global Youth Volunteer International Programme, Corals for Conservation, and the Ministry of itaukei Affairs, highlighting ongoing work supporting coral reef conservation and community engagement across Fiji.

The cChange team joined WCS-Fiji for the second Technical Working Group meeting to continue progressing Fiji’s National Coral Reef Conservation Communication Strategy.
During the session, cChange presented the draft strategy - developed under the GEF-7 Coral Reef Rescue: Resilient Reefs, Resilient Communities Project to technical experts for thoughtful review, feedback, and refinement.
Building on the discussions from the November 2025 TWG meeting, this session marked an important step toward finalizing the strategy. The revised document will be presented at the National Hub for Coral Reef Conservation next month for endorsement.
We also acknowledge the valuable contributions of the technical and project representatives from government agencies and partner NGOs whose insights and expertise helped strengthen the strategy.
The meeting was held in collaboration with WCS and supported through the GEF-7 Coral Reef Rescue project, implemented in partnership with The University of Queensland and the Global Environment Facility.

Last Thursday, the cChange team joined the Kiwa Learning Event: GEDSI Community of Practice in Suva 🌏💚.
Inspiring discussions on inclusive, culturally-appropriate strategies for nature-based solutions left us energized and ready to bring these insights into our work.
Vinaka vakalevu to SPC, SPREP, IUCN, and the Kiwa Initiative team! 🙏✨

The team from cChange had the pleasure of attending the Kiwa Learning Event: GEDSI Community of Practice at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva and streamed across the region.
This inspiring gathering held in partnership with Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme - SPREP , Pacific-Community-SPC , and IUCN brought together passionate people from across the Pacific who are incorporating culturally-appropriate strategies to better support marginalised groups in their work to advance nature-based solutions.
For cChange that means such things as helping all community groups to be a part of community dialogues on better managing fishing grounds, to ensure everyone shares the benefits and no one group is more severely impacted with restrictions on fishing and collecting.
Our team walked away energized and encouraged by the shared commitment in the room.
A big vinaka vakalevu to SPC, SPREP, IUCN, and the Kiwa Initiative team for creating such a valuable space for learning and connection. We’re excited to carry these insights into our work moving forward.
