The Workforce Development and Training Unit of USP’s Pacific TAFE recently completed a customised Emotional Intelligence Training for the Fiji Program Support Platform on 19 August 2026 at the USP Statham Campus.

This in-house program was tailored to address specific organisational needs and strengthen participants’ interpersonal and professional capabilities, focusing on:

· Understanding and managing emotions in the workplace
· Developing self-awareness and self-management
· Strengthening empathy and interpersonal relationships
· Enhancing communication and conflict management skills
· Building resilience and positive workplace relationships

A total of 20 participants took part in the training, demonstrating enthusiasm and a strong commitment to enhancing their emotional intelligence and professional effectiveness. Participants were also presented with certificates upon successful completion of the training. 👏

Empowering Youth to Make Healthy Choices | HIV & Substance Use Awareness Training

The University of the South Pacific’s Pacific TAFE, through its Workforce Development Training Unit (WDTU), successfully delivered an HIV & AIDS and Substance Use & Prevention awareness training for youths of the Koroipita community in Lautoka on Thursday, 13 August 2026.

Delivered in collaboration with Building Innate Resilience Through Hearts (BIRTH Fiji) and Koroipita, the training reflects Pacific TAFE’s commitment to extending learning beyond the classroom and contributing positively to the wellbeing of our communities.

Under the theme “Empowering Youth to Make Healthy Choices: Prevent HIV, Prevent Substance Use, Protect Your Future,” the interactive session equipped participants with practical knowledge about HIV and AIDS, substance use and its effects, the relationship between substance use and HIV risk, and strategies for prevention.

Through discussions, quizzes and interactive activities, participants were encouraged to challenge common myths and misconceptions, make informed and responsible choices, adopt healthier lifestyles, and understand the importance of seeking appropriate support when needed. The training also emphasised respect, inclusion and reducing stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV.

A special acknowledgement and appreciation goes to our facilitator, Ms Jiokapeci Baledrokadroka, for sharing her knowledge and expertise and for facilitating an engaging and meaningful session with the participants. Her contribution was instrumental in creating an interactive learning environment where young people could openly engage with these important health and wellbeing issues.

We also sincerely thank BIRTH Fiji and the Koroipita Management for their partnership and support in making this community initiative possible, and we acknowledge all participants for their enthusiastic participation and engagement throughout the session.

This in-house program was tailored to strengthen workplace safety knowledge and practical skills for employees working at heights. The training focused on:

• Understanding key duties, regulations, and standards for preventing fall-related incidents
• Identifying potential hazards and risks associated with working at heights
• Applying appropriate measures to prevent and control workplace risks
• Understanding safety systems and equipment used to prevent fall-related incidents
• Selecting, inspecting, and safely using personal protective equipment (PPE) for working at heights

The Workforce Development and Training Unit of USP’s Pacific TAFE recently delivered a customised 𝐎𝐇𝐒 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐈 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐈 training for Kasabias Pte Ltd from 12 to 14 August at the USP Statham Campus.

The three-day program brought together 12 participants and was tailored to strengthen workplace health and safety knowledge and practices. The training focused on:

• Understanding basic OHS principles
• Identifying workplace hazards
• Applying basic risk assessment methods
• Following safe work practices
• Understanding regulations and laws relating to workplace health and safety

We commend the Kasabias Pte Ltd team for their active participation and commitment to strengthening workplace safety and professional development.

Building Safer Workplaces, One Session at a Time! 👷🏽‍♂️🦺

The Workforce Development and Training Unit (WDTU) of USP’s Pacific TAFE continues its commitment to strengthening workplace safety by successfully delivering Session 3 of the customised 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 training for the Water Authority of Fiji, held from 10–11 August.

This customised, in-house training combines essential safety knowledge with practical, hands-on learning, preparing participants to recognise hazards, manage risks, and work safely and confidently in confined-space environments.

Key areas covered included:

• Identifying confined space hazards and conducting risk assessments
• Safe entry and exit procedures
• Correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Emergency response and rescue procedures
• On-site practical assessments to reinforce classroom learning

Throughout the two-day program, participants demonstrated strong engagement and commitment, putting their learning into practice through practical field assessments. These hands-on activities provided an important opportunity to apply safe work procedures in realistic settings and reinforce industry best practices.

We commend the Water Authority of Fiji for its continued investment in the safety, skills, and professional development of its workforce. 👏

The Workforce Development and Training Unit of USP's Pacific TAFE recently delivered a customised Fiji Digital Climate Transparency Tool (FDCTT) Capacity Building Training supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change from 5th to 7th August 2026.

This in-house program was tailored to strengthen participants' capacity in using Fiji's Digital Climate Transparency Tool to support national climate reporting and transparency obligations, with a focus on:

• Using the FDCTT for greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory management and reporting
• Data entry, validation, analysis, and gap-filling across Energy, IPPU, Agriculture, LULUCF, and Waste sectors
• Monitoring Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) through the National Transparency Platform
• Applying quality assurance processes to improve the accuracy and reliability of climate data
• Strengthening inter-agency collaboration to support Fiji's Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) reporting obligations
