We're delighted to welcome Elina Andersson, MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management and Secretary General of Finnish Marine Industries, to Navigate 2026.

Representing Finland's leading network of maritime technology providers, equipment manufacturers, designers, software and system companies, and shipyards, Elina works at the intersection of innovation, industry collaboration, and maritime competitiveness. Her perspective will bring valuable insight into how the Nordic maritime sector can drive GDP growth, accelerate decarbonisation, and enhance productivity in a rapidly evolving global industry.

Andres Uusoja is the CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Estonian biggest railway company Operail. He leads commercial strategy, business development, sales, and customer service for one of the most ambitious railway players in the Baltic region. Across more than twenty years of experience in international logistics, he has developed expertise spanning maritime, aviation, road transport and terminal operations - positioning him at the forefront of evolving supply chain trends.

Under Andres Uusoja leadership, Operail and Operail Repairs (locomotive and wagon maintenance and repair) are both strengthening their role in as a important player connecting Finnish cargo flows to Black, North and Adriatic Sea regions by rail.

From mathematics and statistics to maritime safety research and international project leadership, we are proud to share Hollie Black’s journey within the maritime industry, and with this to celebrate the International Day of Women in Maritime!

Hollie joined the maritime sector through an unconventional pathway, moving from a Master’s degree in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Strathclyde into PhD research focused on AI, machine learning, and maritime safety reporting.
Today, as Deputy PMO and Head of R&D at SeaFocus, her work combines human factors, data science, and maritime safety research to support innovation and safer operations across the industry.

“As someone who entered the maritime industry from a non-traditional background, I think it’s important to show that there is space for different skillsets and experiences within the sector. There are so many opportunities for women in maritime, whether in research, technology, operations, leadership, or engineering ” says Hollie Black.

This International Women in Maritime Day, Hollie’s story reflects the value of diverse career pathways, collaboration, and the encouragement of the next generation of women within the maritime sector.

Liina Vahala’s approach combines traditional engineering principles with multidisciplinary expertise and cutting-edge technology, grounded in the belief that meaningful progress in shipbuilding is achieved through the integration of established engineering fundamentals with modern, cross-disciplinary innovation.

Jussi Lehtinen is Vice President, Sales & Projects at Helsinki Shipyard, a Finnish specialist in ice-class and Arctic vessel construction and today part of the Canadian shipbuilding group Davie.

He brings nearly two decades of experience in the marine and shipbuilding industry, combining technical project ex*****on, shipyard operations, and international sales leadership within complex, large-scale shipbuilding programs, including multipurpose icebreaker projects.

In his current role, he is part of Helsinki Shipyard’s development within Davie’s transatlantic shipbuilding network, where the yard operates as a European center of expertise for Arctic vessel construction, reflecting the growing global importance of specialized ice-class shipping and integrated international delivery capability.
