Lured by my dear (Italian) friend Francesco, aka "Fra in Finlandia", I've started a double-team podcast about Finland, living in the Nordics and our experience as expats here. 🐎🇮🇹🇫🇮 The podcast is named "Sisu & Spaghetti".

The podcast's language is Italian, but there's gonna be subs. 🤪

It's gonna be factual and mystical, full of useful information as well as some off-the-bat comedy. We refrain from taking ourselves too seriously.

😬Since I'm enjoying a few days of vacation and relax
in my home country, it's time to share again something
from a couple months ago.

🎸Nowadays, seeing actually "live" music is becoming
rarer. Most shows rely on an ever growing wall of
backing tracks, additional vocals, orchestrations, and it
doesn't stop there. That's why I feel very lucky to be
able to perform entirely live music with kick-ass
musicians such as those in Leverage when we play
tribute to the music Mr. Heikkinen and I most love, the
Dio-era Rainbow.

😎Here, you can be sure everything is as it sounded
live, obviously a bit mixed and balanced to have
something nice for videos. Just like the old live albums.
No pitch correction, no re-recordings, and you can
appreciate the human imperfections that made rock
music of the '70s and '80s so dramatic and beautiful.

🎧Ronnie Dio isn't here to give his five cents on this
gig, and Ritchie Blackmore probably has better to do
than watching our videos, but I like to think this is a
pretty badass way to pay tribute to their genius. Not
many can perform this stuff faithfully and believably,
not because there arent' talented musicians around,
but because what Rainbow created required skills
beyond the vast majority of our peers.

🐲It was not long ago that I posted a whole vocal cover (in one take) of the masterpiece "Dawn of Victory" by Rhapsody, nowadays Rhapsody of Fire.

🎲Singing this brought me back over 20 years to the time I spent sitting around a table and doing our D&D nerd thing with my best friends. Some of the most precious moments of my life!

🎧At the same time, Rhapsody had a huge influence on my taste for heavy music and was one of the first bands I ever listened to in the genre.

🤘Here's another snippet from "Tarot Woman" played not long ago by Leverage under the monicker Wolf Moon Rising in the downtown ultimate temple of rock music in Helsinki, the On The Rocks live club.

🌈Rainbow's been a major source of inspiration for me since I first heard "On Stage", the legendary 1977 live album recorded by the line-up with Dio. The little elf singer, maybe also for his size, his curly hair and his Italian origins, branded himself into my mind and imagination. Soon after that, I started to imitate his tone and phrasing in my own singing, and I hit the wall with the crazy pitches he was able to reach in full voice.

🫣🎤The aim of a truly great singer is to step away from their heroes and make a style of their own which can stand the comparison. I can't say I'm there yet, but I'm positive I've come much closer, and I'm gonna work on it until I can't sing anymore. I mean, Dio was Dio and there will never be another like him, but this is quite cool too!

🫣Right now I don't have much new stuff to show for, but I have "past" material.

👀Maybe too often I've been quite shy with putting myself out there, I hold myself to high standards so it's not easy to let go of the self-criticism, even for a few moments. The imposter syndrome awaits around every corner. But reality is, I'm not that crappy. Nor you are, probably.

🫵So every now and then - still holding on to a safe amount of humbleness - it's good to be proud of what you do and who you do it with. I'm very proud of my Leverage family, including the band and all the people revolving around what we do. They're the best I could ask for. Together, we paid and will pay tribute to some of our most beloved songs, the Dio-era of Rainbow.

🐺Here's a bit of "Run With The Wolf", which we delivered at On The Rocks in Helsinki less than a month ago.

🤘It's still very far from the mastery of the one and only Ronnie James Dio, but let's be honest... nobody is ever going to sing like that again. This - however - doesn't fall too short after all.
