Construction begins on the New Aviation Museum in Finland! 🏗️✈️

Construction of the New Aviation Museum will begin in April in Vantaa’s Aviapolis district. The Finnish Aviation Museum Foundation and contractor Lapti signed the agreement for the construction phase on Monday, 23 March 2026. The museum is planned to open at the turn of 2027–2028.

The Finnish Aviation Museum is a national museum responsible for preserving and exhibiting the history of Finnish aviation. The new premises aim to attract over 100,000 visitors a year in versatile exhibition spaces showcasing the history and future of aviation. The 7,000 m2 building will also accommodate event facilities, a café, a museum shop and other activity-related facilities such as flight simulators.

This is not just about a new building, but about revitalising the entire cultural heritage of Finnish aviation for future generations. We are now taking a step toward the era of the Aviation Museum – a place that brings together history, technology and visions of the future in both aviation and space in a way that inspires and resonates with a wide audience,” says Jarkko Konttinen, Chairman of the Finnish Aviation Museum Foundation.

“I believe this project embodies the saying, well planned is half done. Thanks to our excellent collaboration, we’ve been able to achieve all of the project’s objectives from museum operations and the cityscape to cost and schedule management. It’s great that we’re able to get this fantastic building project off the ground during these challenging times,” says Tuomas Silvennoinen, principal designer of the project at PES-Architects.


Suomen Ilmailumuseo - The Finnish Aviation Museum Rakennusliike Lapti A-Insinöörit

Uuden Ilmailumuseon rakentaminen alkaa Vantaan Aviapoliksessa.

Uuden Ilmailumuseon rakennustyöt alkavat huhtikuussa Vantaan Aviapoliksessa. Suomen Ilmailumuseosäätiö ja Rakennusliike Lapti allekirjoittivat maanantaina 23.3.2026 toteutusvaiheen sopimuksen. Museon on tarkoitus avautua vuodenvaihteessa 2027–2028.

Suomen Ilmailumuseo on suomalaisen ilmailun historiaa tallentava ja esittelevä valtakunnallinen vastuumuseo, jonka tavoitteena on houkutella uuteen museokeskukseen yli 100 000 kävijää vuosittain.

Uuden Ilmailumuseon nykyaikaiset näyttelytilat tarjoavat monipuoliset mahdollisuudet esitellä ilmailun historiaa ja tulevaisuutta. Kokonaispinta-alaltaan noin 7 000 m² rakennukseen tulee näyttelytilojen lisäksi tiloja tapahtumille, kahvila, museokauppa sekä muita toimintaan liittyviä tiloja kuten lentosimulaattoreita.

– Uuden Ilmailumuseon rakentamisen käynnistyminen on historiallinen hetki. Kyse ei ole pelkästään uudesta rakennuksesta, vaan koko suomalaisen ilmailun kulttuuriperinnön uudistamisesta ja kehittämisestä tuleville sukupolville. Hanke on edennyt vahvassa yhteistyössä Vantaan kaupungin, opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriön sekä keskeisten ilmailualan toimijoiden, kuten Finnairin, Finavian, Patrian, Suomen Ilmailuliiton ja Ilmailumuseoyhdistyksen kanssa. Samalla otamme askeleen kohti Ilmailumuseon aikakautta – paikkaa, joka yhdistää historian, teknologian ja tulevaisuuden näkymät niin ilmailussa kuin avaruudessa tavalla, joka innostaa ja puhuttelee laajasti, kertoo Suomen Ilmailumuseosäätiön puheenjohtaja Jarkko Konttinen.

Rakennusliike Lapti PES-Architects A-Insinöörit Vantaan kaupunki - Vanda Stad - City of Vantaa

A new chapter begins at PES-Architects as long-serving CEO Jarkko Salminen, having reached retirement age, transitions into an advisory and board role after 26 years of leadership.

We're pleased to announce that our new CEO as of 1 March 2026 is Pekka Mäkelä, MSc (Arch), who has served as PES-Architects' Deputy CEO since 2023.

Tuomas Silvennoinen, Senior Partner and Chair of the Board, says: “I would like to thank Jarkko for his significant contribution, support and friendship over the years. We've shared over two decades of the joys and challenges of running a business together, and I’m pleased that we can continue to rely on his expertise going forward. I wish Jarkko all the best in this new chapter of his life.”

Tuomas continues that Pekka Mäkelä, a long-time colleague, is a clear and natural choice to lead the company. “Pekka is a leader with both the ambition and capability to guide PES-Architects’ operational activities, together with the PES Management Team, into the company’s next phase.”

(FI/SV/EN) Ihan kohta tavataan Fuugassa!

🎶Musiikkitalo Fuuga valmistuu syksyllä. Turun uusi musiikkitalo tuo jokirantaan maailmanluokan akustiset olosuhteet musiikkiesityksille ja lisäksi puitteet monipuolisille tapahtumille. Musiikkitaloon tulee myös kaksi ravintolaa. Kattoterassille voi tulla vaikka lukemaan tai vain oleilemaan.

🎶Fuuga on Turun filharmonisen orkesterin kotisali. Ohjelmistosta noin puolet tulee olemaan filharmonikkojen ja paikallisten toimijoiden ohjelmaa, toinen puolisko vierailuja ja muita esityksiä.

🎶Fuugan isoon konserttisaliin mahtuu 1 300 henkilöä. Pienempi Ateljee-sali on 300-paikkainen. Salit mahdollistavat monenlaisen musiikin esittämisen. Musiikkitalon johtaja Samppa Rinne korostaa, että vaikka paikalliset toimijat ovat keskeisiä kumppaneita, tilaa on myös kertaluonteisille yhteistöille sekä vierailuohjelmistolle.

🎶Fuugassa onkin tavoitteena törmäyttää eri taiteenaloja ja musiikinaloja. Ateljee-salissa voidaan hyvin nähdä vaikkapa taidemusiikin ja sirkuksen, tai jazzin ja nykyesityksen kohtaamisia.

Snart träffas vi i Fuga!

🎶Musikhuset Fuga blir färdigt på hösten. Åbos nya musikhus vid åstranden kommer med en akustisk atmosfär i världsklass för musikföreställningar och dessutom beredskap för mångsidiga evenemang. Musikhuset får också två restauranger. Man kan komma för att läsa eller bara vara på takterrassen.

🎶Fuga är Åbo filharmoniska orkesters hemsal. Ungefär hälften av programutbudet kommer bestå av program av filharmonikerna och lokala aktörer. Den andra hälften av besök och andra föreställningar.

🎶 Fugas stora konsertsal rymmer 1 300 personer. Den mindre Ateljee-salen rymmer cirka 300 personer. Salarna möjliggör framförande av olika slag. Musikhusets direktör Samppa Rinne betonar att fastän de lokala aktörerna är centrala partner, finns det ändå rum för engångssamarbeten och besöksprogram.

🎶 Fuga har som mål att skapa kollisioner mellan olika konstarter och musikarter. I Ateljee-salen kommer man kunna se möten mellan såväl klassisk musik och cirkus som jazz och nutidsframställningar.

Soon we’ll meet in Fuuga!

🎶 Turku Music Centre Fuuga will be ready in the autumn. The new Music Centre will bring worldclass acoustic conditions for music performances and possibilities for a varied event repertoire. The Music Centre will have two restaurants. People can come to the roof terrasse to read or just chill.

🎶 Fuuga is the home of Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. About half of the program selection will be comprised of the Philharmonics and local producers. The other half of visits and other events.

🎶 The large concert hall in Fuuga has 1,300 seats. The smaller Ateljee hall has 300 seats. The halls make it possible to perform different kinds of music. The Director of the Music Centre Samppa Rinne highlights that even though local producers are central partners, there is also room for one-time cooperations and visiting repertoires.

🎶 The idea is to offer new encounters between different arts and music fields. In the Ateljee hall, encounters between classical music and circus, or jazz and contemporary performances could well be part of the programme.

Helsingin Sanomat joined us at the official opening of the Nanjing Sino-Finnish Centre in China.

HS Nanjingissa | Kiinassa voi yhä pystyttää rakennuksia, joita Suomessa tehtiin sata vuotta sitten Kiinalaisen ja suomalaisen kulttuurin keskus avautui Nanjingiin kymmenen vuoden työn päätteeksi. Suurhanke oli suomalaisen PES-Arkkitehtien käsialaa.

PES Architects’ long-term hybrid project, the Sino-Finnish Centre, was officially opened this week in Nanjing, China, after completion in 2025. The event marked the culmination of the exceptionally demanding and complex project spanning nearly a decade, starting in 2016, when our design won the invited architectural competition aimed at six Finnish practices.

The winning proposal was developed under the lead of Professor Pekka Salminen, PES-Architects’ founding partner, who passed away in 2024. It remains his last completed design.

The core design concept is based on the metaphor of “breaking the ice” between cultures, expressed architecturally through building forms inspired by ice blocks and ice crystals. When viewed up close, the fragmented glass prism façade structure imitates ice crystals and changes colour and tone under different lighting conditions.

The 210,000 m² hybrid development comprises an office tower, a 100 m Radisson Blu hotel tower, a conference centre, an exhibition centre and timber exhibition pavilions.

Sustainability was a key starting point throughout the design process. The double-skin façade system enables passive cooling in summer and heat recovery in winter. The load-bearing structures of the pavilions were realised using CLT and glulam timber elements.

Completed under the lead of chief designers Tuomas Silvennoinen and Jyri Eskola, the project is a result of long-term and close collaboration between PES Helsinki and Shanghai offices, the client, and local partners in China.
