Congratulations to New ICFO PhD Graduate!
We congratulate Dr. Pavel Popov who defended his thesis this morning in ICFO’s Elements Room.
Dr. Popov obtained his MSc in Physics from the Heidelberg University, before joining the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA professor Dr. Maciej Lewenstein.
His thesis titled " Quantum simulation of lattice gauge theories with qudit systems" was supervised by ICREA Prof. Dr. Maciej Lewenstein and Dr. Valentin Kasper.

Congratulations to New ICFO PhD Graduate!
We congratulate Dr. Aditya Jagadeesh Malla who defended his thesis this morning in ICFO’s Auditorium.
Dr. Malla obtained his MSc from the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree program EUROPHOTONICS at Aix-Marseille University, before joining the Functional Optoelectronic Nanomaterials research group led by ICREA professor Dr. Gerasimos Konstantatos.
His thesis titled " Collodial Quantum Dot Emitters in the Shortwave Infrared Region" was supervised by ICREA Prof. Dr. Gerasimos Konstantatos.

📝 ICFO researchers María Hernandez Ruiz, Dr. Christopher Kiehl and Dr. Gianvito Lucivero, PhD, led by ICREA Prof. Morgan Mitchell, report the first precision measurements of the magnetic field produced by magnetotactic bacteria, as they lose their orientation (relax) after being polarized in a strong magnetic field.
They observed small but significant deviations from ideal exponential decay, implying that some bacteria have a harder time relaxing than others.
The results have appeared in EPJ Quantum Technology.

Europe’s Bid for Photonic Chip Leadership Begins in Barcelona
Barcelona hosted Connect, an event driven by the European PIXEurope initiative — a pilot line backed by a €400 million investment to accelerate the photonic chip market and strengthen European technological sovereignty.
Following their participation in the event, Spain’s Minister for Digital Transformation and Civil Service, Óscar López Águeda, the Minister for Research and Universities of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Núria Montserrat, and the Government Delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto Gómez, visited the ICFO facilities to see first-hand the latest advances in photonic chip technologies.
