I love rug shooting days. Here's one sneak peek of what we have to show you in the coming week. The natural dyes on this antique Shirvan really leap off rug. This piece is incredibly well preserved and a beautiful example of the finer craftsmanship we can find in rugs of the region. The colorful hooked diamonds that fill the field are mesmerizing.

Today I passed by a rug producer in Cairo who makes excellent handwoven replicas of old Caucasian rugs. This Egyptian made replica Shirvan is stunning. The knots are finer than you'd find in most of the originals and the colors are mesmerizing. At the and time it's a fraction of the cost of the original. For people looking for beautiful handwoven rugs on a budget. These can be a great alternative. There are some clear advantages for the real deal but if your budget is hundreds of dollars rather than thousands this is a choice you should consider.

It's been fun exploring the rug market in Morocco. These gorgeous tribal double sided flat weave rugs have really stood out to me. They're absolutely mesmerizing. The detailed knotting shows exceptionally high levels of craftsmanship and quality. The natural dyes give that deeply soothing texture in the colors of the rugs that is absent from chemical dye rugs. I also really enjoy the seeming randomness of the patterns. There's so much variety to explore in the design of a single piece. I want to bring them all back to Cairo.

This Turkmen Salor Bukhara is a stunning piece. It is approximately 90 years old and its deep reds produced from natural dyes drawn from pomegranates and berries are sure to warm any room it's placed in. This rug features a repeating field of Turret Gul medallions. Its rich series of borders include multiple Soldat Minor borders. The rug measures 198x117 cms.

This beautiful antique runner features a field of repeating floral motifs backed in a soft warm red. The variety of borders include a pair of two petal Calyx Meanders. This antique Kazak Kinje measures 265 x 100 cms and is roughly 90 years old.

This Kazakh Mihrab prayer rug is approximately 100 years old. The field features three beautiful colorful hooked diamon medallions. These medallions are flanked by half hooked diamonds sometimes seen in Bordjalou rugs. On both sides of the mihrab above one finds a series of Shulavar medallions. The inner border is a series of linked Octagram stars typical of Kazkah rugs. This piece measures 182 x 114 cms.

This antique Shiraz Qashqai rug is over 100 years old. The rich field features an array of detailed persian motifs ranging from a number of animal and floral motifs, serrated diamonds, and stars similar to those found in rugs from Luristan. The rug's field boasts three Qashqai medallions and is framed by a generously detailed series of borders. The rug is in excellent condition given its age. It measures 175 x 320 cms. This 80 year old Shirvan features an array of rich motifs which are a pleasure to observe. The piece has a number of different borders, including a floral border, a Laleh Abbasi border as well as a reciprocal border. Within the field of the rug one finds botehs, Karagashli flowers and stepped hexagon column motifs. The rug measures 180 x 112 cms. The warm colors blend together beautifully and help make any room in your home that much cozier. Both ends of the rug have been expertly repaired which helps bring down the price of this piece. This Baluch Taymouri rug is approximately 90 years old. It is composed of the classical Baluch color scheme of deep crimson reds with dark navy blues and deep earthy browns. It's main border is composed of repeating Kochak Crosses. Running along both sides of the Kochak Cross border one finds a Soldat Minor border typically found in Turkmen rugs. In the field one finds a pattern of repeating Ashik Gul Medallions typical of Baluch rugs. This rug measures 200 x 110 cms making it quite versatile.
