Where have we been?!🤷🏻‍♀️

Here’s a recap: Grant renovated a house, we fostered a dog, we went to Egypt, we caught a travel bug and took 9 more trips to visit friends and family around the US. Throw our 9-5 jobs into the above, needless to say, we’ve had a very busy summer!

We greatly appreciated being able to lighten our Lorem workload by putting a hault to posting content on social media, but we’re excited to start sharing again! Lookout for more content this week!

What have you been up to this summer? Let us know!

Crossed arms, heavy sighs, short replies..you know when someone’s getting frustrated. Oftentimes difficult or even angry people aren't expressing frustration with you personally, so it’s best to stay calm and keep 3 of our tips in mind.

1. Let the angry person talk and vent. The key to deescalation is to listen and allow the individual to feel heard. When you're upset, has someone saying, "I understand," ever made you feel better? I didn't think so. Limit the amount of times you interject or problem solve.

2. Once your angry customer/coworker has finished talking you should ask some questions to show you were listening. If they’re still angry let them speak until their calm.

3. If you feel your customer is too angry use your support resources. Leave the room if you feel unsafe. Call your manager. Or suggest scheduling a separate meeting to address the issues, and allow your angry customer/coworker to take a step back and come back to the conversation when they’re calm.

You’ve heard of the term “passive income”...why not update your LinkedIn profile and “passive job search”?

A whopping 87% of recruiters find LinkedIn to be the most effective when vetting candidates during the hiring process – especially those under 45 (90%)(according to the Jobvite annual recruiting report).

Even if you’re not actively job searching, having an active and well put together LinkedIn profile will significantly increase the chances of your discovery by various companies looking to hire people based on your skills and experience.

If you’re experiencing “imposter syndrome” maybe your workplace culture is to blame...

Psychologists developed the concept, originally termed “imposter phenomenon,” in a 1978 study, which focused on high-achieving women. They argued that “despite outstanding academic and professional accomplishments, women who experience the imposter phenomenon persist in believing that they are really not bright and have fooled anyone who thinks otherwise.”

Imposter syndrome is especially prevalent in biased, toxic cultures that value individualism and overwork. An article in the Harvard Business Review suggested that rather than focus on fixing imposter syndrome, professionals whose identities have been marginalized and discriminated against would benefit from experiencing a new more diverse workplace or a workplace committed to diversity💡here’s why...

There’s no doubt role models and mentors shape us and develop us as professionals. If you’re unable to find a role model you relate to, career development becomes much more difficult. Women working in organizations lacking female and/or minority leaders inevitably face challenges finding mentors.

Leaders must create a culture for women and people of color that addresses systemic bias and racism. Only by doing so can we reduce the experiences that culminate in so-called imposter syndrome among employees from marginalized communities — or at the very least, help those employees channel healthy self-doubt into positive motivation, which is best fostered within a supportive work culture.

We’ve got an interview hack!!

To be considered a great candidate you’ll want to be a good fit for the team. With that in mind, here are some tips for your interview:

1. Do some research on the company culture, and figure out if your interview will be more formal or informal.

2. Ask good questions, preferably ask some questions about things your interviewer mentions so that you’re having a conversation.

3. Show enthusiasm!

Happy Valentines Day!❤️

They say a picture says 1,000 words, and this picture really does for both of us. May of 2019 we were playing soccer on opposing teams, but when we look at this picture the first word that comes to mind is “team”. From being business partners, planning elaborate vacations and even when cooking together, we make a great team! 🥰

Who are the teammates you’re celebrating today? ❤️❤️❤️

Have you ever felt stuck?

Here’s a roadmap of the typical job search process. Which step are you having a hard time getting to? Consider evaluating the step prior to help you make it to that next step.

Example: if you’re not getting to the negotiation step, revisit your interview skills. Do some practice interviews with your friend, family and/Lorem to identify how you can improve!
