🌍 True innovation in digital health requires equity at its core.

We’re proud that a student from TalTech’s Digital Health master’s programme Gerda Raam was selected from a pool of more than 100 applicants to join the Empowering Equity Academy in Luxembourg, together with Mara Hermse, a student from TalTech’s Technology Governance programme they represented TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology throughout the event.

The Empowering Equity Academy helps STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students explore careers in venture capital and private equity, with a particular focus on empowering women. Through sessions with professionals from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Investment Fund (EIF), participants explored EIF’s strategic priorities, financial products and impact investing in practice.

💡 For our Digital Health community, these insights offer a valuable perspective on how investment can support fairer, more impactful health technologies.

Congratulations to both students—we look forward to the perspectives they’ll bring back to TalTech!

🙏Special thanks to Mall Maasik to pushing the book over the finish line, Kristi Tamtik and Mihkel Martinson for triple checking the terminology.

There was a lot of interest in the event. The textbook presentation at Mektory today in terms of Teadlaste ÖÖ (Researchers' Night Festival) brought together many people from other universities, hospitals, the public sector and private companies.

In the first part of the presentation Peeter Ross, Riina Hallik and Elli Valla introduced the textbook and shared how it came together.

🤔A panel discussion followed, asking: “Do we need Digital Health specialists, or specialists with Digital Health knowledge?” Panellists Jandra Sule, Karin Rääsk, Iris Tõnismaa and Doris Kaljuste, with Priit Kruus as moderator, explored how to best use the textbook and what is the current situation of teaching Digital Health in TalTech, University of Tartu and in Tallinna Tervishoiu Kõrgkool.

🎓 Did you know that you can take TalTech - Tallinn University of Technology courses without enrolling in a full BSc or MSc programme?

TalTech Open Studies makes it possible! ✨

To make getting started easier, we’ve selected two first-year courses with different study formats:
⚡ One course takes place intensively over one month
📅 The other is spread out over a longer period, with smaller study bits throughout the semester

📚 For those who prefer to spread their studies out over the semester, we’re happy to introduce our second featured course: Health Systems in the 21st Century!

📅 When?
Every Friday from 10:30 to 13:00
4 September–11 December

👥 For whom?
According to lecturer Priit Kruus, the course is suitable for students who want to understand how health systems have developed, how they operate today, how they are financed, and how effective they are at keeping us healthy and achieving their goals.
In short: digital health economics. 💡
No prior knowledge is required to take the course.

💬 Student feedback
“Overall, the course provided a strong understanding of how health systems function and how political and financial mechanisms shape stakeholder behaviour. I especially valued learning to compare financing and purchasing models and analyse the incentives they create. The course also supported practical thinking about solving complex health system problems and evaluating interventions, including the implementation and financing of new health technologies.”

Without further ado, we’re happy to introduce our first featured course: 🩺💻 Basics of e-Health!

📅 When?
Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 to 13:30
31 August–23 September

👥 For whom?
According to the lecturer, Prof. Dr Peeter Ross, this course is suitable for students who want to gain a basic understanding of developments in e-health in Estonia and beyond. After successfully completing the course, students will understand the structure and role of e-health in healthcare. No prior knowledge is required.

💬 Student feedback
“It was so refreshing to have a holistic perspective of the subject and not just a focus on the Estonian health system alone, but we had an international perspective as well. I was able to learn so much from both the different lecturers and fellow colleagues. We were always given a chance to critically reflect on things and discuss, rather than just receive one-sided input from the lecturers.”
