🔓 Catch up: The open-source blueprint

Highlights from the session:
- Kerstin Bongard-Blanchy from the Luxembourg Media and Digital Design Centre shared how open source works on a national level. Now, every educator in Luxembourg can use a platform of open-source tools with their school login. Her advice: treat going open source like choosing a life partner. You commit because you're willing to put in the work, not because it's perfect.

- Markus Deimann from ORCA.nrw questioned the webinar's title. He said open source means "better" education only if we tackle the ideological forces against it. He believes education is a practice of democracy, not just tools.

A whiteboard poll on who should own digital tools drew a pragmatic answer from participants: institutions, companies and communities all have a role, depending on capacity.

🤖 Catch up: From coding to classroom GPT

Missed our webinar or want to revisit it to find out what genuinely classroom-ready AI tools look like - and why getting hands-on with the technology still matters, even in the age of generative AI?

Highlights from the session:
- Léo Briand from Vittascience pushed back on the idea that children no longer need to learn to code: the foundations coding builds are civic skills as much as technical ones. His browser-based platform is used over a million times a year in Europe. It makes AI training clear instead of mysterious. Students can train models using images, sounds, and sensor data.

- Martin Sønderlev Christensen from University College Copenhagen explained how SkoleGPT was created. It was a response to students using ChatGPT secretly. SkoleGPT is a free, open-source chatbot. There’s no login required and no data is collected. It serves 3,000 to 5,000 users daily on Denmark's national infrastructure.

Together, they landed on a shared question for the community: does an AI tool support a student's own thinking, or quietly replace it?

🌍 Catch up: Digital gaps in tough conditions

Missed our webinar or want to revisit it to hear what digital education looks like inside a prison, or thirty kilometres from an active front line - and what these extreme conditions can teach the rest of us?

Highlights from the session:

- Daiana Huber from the Center for Promoting Lifelong Learning shared insights on correctional education. She noted that a truly resilient tool can thrive even with limited infrastructure and strict information control. But digital tools can't replace sustained human contact - meaning-making happens between people, not platforms.

- Tetiana Dalievska from Ukraine's Ministry of Education and Science shared how Ukraine supports 3.5 million school-age children. Despite power cuts and displacement, over 600 higher education institutions continue learning. They use a national LMS, digital learning centres, and portable e-documents.

- Svitlana Shytikova from the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine explained how Erasmus+ has helped Ukrainian universities during the war. She highlighted Sumy State University's ongoing international cooperation, even though it is just thirty kilometres from the border.
