Bringing the class to the market #10
You've been with us through the pavements, the kerbs and the borrowed spaces.
📣 Today we have very exciting news 📣
Chillogallo Market has donated us a space. After twenty five years, UBECI is going to build its first dedicated classroom.
This is a huge moment for us. 🌱
A fundraiser is coming soon to help bring it to life.

Bringing the class to the market #9
We’ve loved sharing Nicole’s story with you.
But not every child has the opportunities she has had.
In Quito’s markets, many children grow up working alongside their families, without consistent access to education.
Without that access, the impact is long term.
Children are more likely to leave school early, face limited job opportunities, and remain in cycles of poverty.
Education changes this.
At UBECI, we take a simple approach.
A low-cost, high-impact model that brings learning directly into the markets.
Through this model, we actively work to prevent school dropout and expand children’s future opportunities.
Even one additional year of schooling can significantly increase a child’s future income and opportunities.
Through these classes, children build confidence, develop soft skills, and begin to imagine a different future.
Nicole is one of the children who has had that opportunity.
Through her scholarship, she is learning English, growing in confidence, and dreaming bigger.
But many children are still waiting.
We can’t do this without your support.
Help us bring education to more children.
When a child is given the chance to learn, everything can change.

Bringing the class to the market #8
Nicole’s teacher shared what he has seen since she joined the programme.
When Nicole first arrived, she was very shy. Not just with English, but in herself.
But now she is starting to speak more, connect with other students and grow in confidence. She is very keen and already having a positive influence on the other children, many of whom may never have met a child from the markets.
At UBECI, learning goes beyond language. Through classes in the markets, children build confidence, develop life skills and begin to imagine a different future.
Over the past weeks, we’ve shared Nicole’s story through her own voice and her mum’s. This week, we see how that journey continues to grow.
We’ll also be sharing more from this conversation on our website soon.

Bringing the class to the market #6
Nicole’s mum shared more of their story with UBECI this week.
When she was younger, education wasn’t always possible. Later, she and Nicole’s father worked long days and studied at night to finish school.
Since joining UBECI classes in the markets, Nicole has started learning English, growing in confidence and engaging more in her education.
“We want her to have the chances that were too hard for us.”
Their dream is for Nicole to become the first in her family to go to university.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll share more of Nicole’s story, including reflections from her teacher.

Meet Nicole.
Nicole began learning English with UBECI in the markets of Quito.
Today she is the first child in the programme to receive a scholarship to study at an English language school.
Over the coming weeks we’ll share more of Nicole’s story, including reflections from her mum and teacher about what this opportunity means for her future.

Bringing the classroom to the market #5
Today, the lesson reaches beyond the children.
In Quito’s markets, mothers carry long working days and heavy responsibilities. Behind every child learning, growing and building confidence, there is a woman holding everything together. 💛
That’s why we developed our Empowering Women and Mothers programme.
When a mother feels supported and confident, it shapes the home environment, the value placed on school, and how children see their own future.

Today’s lesson wasn’t in a workbook
It was about courage.
A rope..
A little jump..
A teacher nearby..
In Quito’s markets, confidence is built in moments like these.

Listening before teaching
Each year, we spend quiet one-to-one time with every child.
These moments help us understand where they are right now, so we can plan how to support them best in the year ahead.
Learning starts with listening.
And planning starts with care.
