In 1919, a product that was to transform the world of bearings and their applications in countless industries left our doors. An invention, that would continue to evolve over the next 100 years – pushing the boundaries of machine performance. The spherical roller bearing. Initially used in applications with heavy loads, moderate speeds and the risk of misalignment, the applications of these bearings have grown to include wind turbines, marine propulsion, sugar processing, pulp and paper production, material handling, mining and construction. But what makes this bearing so versatile? It’s ability to enable rotation with low friction and permit angular misalignment.

Lubrication systems only have a limited service life. Factors such as contamination can accelerate deterioration in the pump element. Without a pump element, the system does not work.

It costs around 150 euros for a new pump element, but in the region of 2,000 for a new lubrication system. Replacing cheaper pump element is quickly becoming a trend in the wind energy industry and offers a range of benefits, including making your maintenance strategy more cost effective and boosting availability.

Therefore, lubrication system remanufacturing should now be the go-to option for operators. It could require a slight change in attitude, but the stage is set for lubrication system remanufacturing to become an industry standard and make wind energy even more competitive.
