Vulnerability post:
So; I spent some time working with a writing coach, and submitting poems for Publication…whilst completing my certification in Holistic Health amongst other s**t that women have to juggle - and perimenopause and kegel work and…. The distraction and creative outlet felt amazing, and whilst my expectations have been at times; wanting it all - to just getting thru a ‘season’, the disappointment of rejection is heavy!

Rejection season feels at times unrelenting; from job postings, to not getting that ‘look’ when passing by, you know, the ones more maiden-like beings attract?!?

Anyways; cheers to letting it go and letting whatever to be flow!

Almost 8!

The transition between 7 & 8 is wide
A heaviness in my heart
Turbulent at times
Just when I caught the hang of little boy,
Here comes 8!
Not quite a tween
But definitely not small -
In the curiosity of what’s really god &
Why are we all here?
Almost 8 is at times mouthy, opinionated
Loud and then also introverted.
The space between 7 & 8 when counted in life’s experiences is a decade - mini lifetimes fit in between.

From hanging onto my every word and lingering in the bathroom the moment I retreat in there, to laser sharp retorts mandolin-ing my once confident ego with “You said that already…” or ending an already one-sided conversation with the infamous “I said I don’t know!”

It’s the way Almost 8 pulls his hand away from mine, unwinding 8 years of a fiercely hybrid sheltered system. I’m torn between tightening my grip because
At night, Almost 8 still wants to lay against me to fall asleep and stays so close when he’s unwell.

Almost 8 checks himself out in the mirror, flattening those thick curls that frames a once chubby face. Almost 8 is beautiful, infectious smile and eyes that glow with wonder and intrigue. Almost 8 attracts attention, his skin golden brown even in January, with notes of spring honey, the kind you find on the West coast where Sun expends extra energy.

Almost 8 is my greatest gift that was never mine. A sacred contract written before consciousness became awareness.

I’m excited for Almost 8, releasing the weight of 7 and embracing a whole new you. But, whilst 7 still lingers; I will enjoy every hand-holding moment, and morning snuggles, and lingering goodnights as I prepare my body and mind for the BIG 8!
