A few days after I played a cute lil festival on an island called Wangerooge I played a bit of our song 'Catching Sunlight' on the balcony, collab song with my buddy .There was one take with a bird flying above my head at the exact same moment I sang the word, but unfortunately the audio quality of the take was sh** so I thought I’d rather share this one with you for now. Might post the little bird moment for you another time…

Ever since I was a little kid I was OBSESSED with the sun. I couldn’t be held inside once the sun came out, I’d run outside the minute I’d see it (you can imagine how hard some summer days in school were for me, to me it almost felt like being held hostage there).
A couple of years ago my relationship with the sun changed drastically when I suddenly developed white spots on my skin, slowly growing all over my body and hair. I was diagnosed with vitiligo and was told I had to be really careful with spending time in the sun from now on. This really broke my heart, not because I was turning into a dotted lemon - honestly it was also funny to watch, especially in summer when the contrast was highlighting my new spots - but because “catching sunlight” has been kind of my identity and way of life up until then.
“Catching Sunlight”, the new song my buddy and I wrote on my balcony in Hamburg when he was visiting from Cape Town, to me shows the magic of songwriting. So while we wrote this song about how easy one can get lost and overwhelmed atm, missing out on precious little moments, it also means so much more to me. After all those years it’s still crazy to me that one simple song can have so many layers and different meanings to each person who listens to it - sometimes even several meanings depending on the day, the mood…

After we wrote our first song in Kommetjie in South Africa, ‘Catching Sunlight‘ slowly came together watching birds on the balcony in Hamburg, strumming away and talking about how easy one
can get lost and overwhelmed these days, missing out on precious little moments.
