💥Our album *Residual Light* is the subject of a fine article by Martin Hufner in the Hörbar section of the Neue Musik Zeitung:

„All these musical works are characterised by their uniqueness in the fields of composition, interpretation and improvisation. So much here is conceived in such an airy, unpretentious way, so far removed from personalism and egocentricity – something that is rare to find these days, when personal self-promotion is constantly becoming the central aesthetic element of communication. This is refreshing and should certainly set a precedent.“

In der Konzertreihe „collective compositions“ sprengt das open music ensemble die Grenzen zwischen den Disziplinen auf. 2026 dreht sich alles um die Verschmelzung von Klang, Wort und Bild.
Kommt vorbei und erlebt zwei einzigartige Abende:

🔹 21.06. | 17 Uhr: Listening stories feat. 🏠 GEDOK Stuttgart (Hölderlinstraße 17) Gemeinsam mit der Schauspielerin und Sprecherin Katja Uffelmann entstehen faszinierende Klanggeschichten. Akustische und elektronische Sounds treffen auf das gesprochene Wort.

🔹 16.07. | 19 Uhr: Dots, Lines and Surfaces 🏠 Paul Ege Art Collection, Freiburg (Robert-Bunsen-Str. 5) Im Rahmen der Ausstellung „SO CLOSE, YET SO FAR“ bringt das Ensemble Kunst zum Klingen. Punkte, Linien und Flächen verwandeln sich in musikalische Impulse und Rhythmen.

💥Ensemble Spotlight!
Here is our last member who has been with us since open music was founded. He is now one of the three artistic directors and board members: Michael Kiedaisch 👇

Michael Kiedaisch – percussion, vibraphone, marimba, artistic director of open music
Active in jazz, new music and free improvisation, with a particular focus on the intersections between these genres. Founding member of open music since 2005 alongside Scott Roller and Ulrike Stortz. Since 2023, also co-director with Céline Papion and Roderik Vanderstraeten.

This week we are delighted to introduce the administrative director and one of the three artistic directors and board members: 👇

Céline Papion – Cello
open music Artistic Director & Managing Director
Céline focuses her work primarily on 20th- and 21st-century music. She undertakes her own projects in collaboration with international composers and artists. She is a founding member of S-K-A-M in Stuttgart and the cellist with the collective lovemusic in Strasbourg. International performances and residencies in Stuttgart, Paris, London, Montreal, Taipei, Kuching-Borneo and São Paulo, amongst others. She is now the youngest member of open music and, since 2023, has been co-director and managing director of the association alongside Michael Kiedaisch and Roderik Vanderstraeten.

💥Ensemble Spotlight!
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be taking you behind the scenes to introduce you to the members of the open music ensemble. We’ll be kicking the series off with our violinist, Felix Borel! 👇

Felix Borel – Violin
Felix is an artist with an impressive stylistic range. Alongside his permanent position with the SWR Symphony Orchestra, he is constantly seeking new artistic inspiration through improvisation. His versatility is also reflected in his work with renowned ensembles such as ensemble recherche, Camerata Bern, Trio Ginko, the Kurmann Strings and the Helios Quartet. He holds a teaching post in improvisation at the Freiburg University of Music. Felix has been a permanent member of open music since 2018 and has significantly enriched our work with his creative energy ever since.

💥Ensemble Spotlight!
In our weekly series introducing the musicians of the open music ensemble, we are pleased to present a second member: clarinetist Felix Behringer (and yes, following last week's introduction, the second Felix in our ranks) 👇

Felix Behringer is a highly versatile clarinetist with a deep, passionate commitment to contemporary music. After completing his studies at the Zurich University of the Arts and the Manhattan School of Music in New York, he was selected for a scholarship at the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt am Main. In addition to his work as a freelance musician, Behringer teaches at the Zurich Conservatory of Music
He has long been a cornerstone of our formation: Felix joined open music in 2013 and has been deeply enriching our ensemble for over a decade.
