I was born in Prague (Czech Republic) and my bond with art is embedded in my genes. My family tree includes many creative and artistic ancestors like my great grandfather who was an artist and architect whose buildings still adorn Prague and my uncle Michael Pavlik who is a famous glass artist. Even though art always played a role in my life, it took me a while to understand the power and effect of it. Recently, it occurred to me that most of my waking hours are spent either at home or work. I never paid much attention to how these places looked or how the dreariness was affecting me. My everyday profession is as a civil engineer and as you can imagine, the offices I have worked in were not the trendiest but were very “functional.” I never felt like the environment helped me to do a better job. In fact, I believe it hampered my performance. I have moved quite a lot and with every move, I racked my brain as to how to make my new apartment feel like home despite the poor look of some of them. My experiences with my homes and my offices led me to discover the easiest way is to make those interiors more pleasant and inspirational. The answer was quite simple –art. I did a lot of research in which types of artwork are best for different locations. There are plenty of ideas, but the bottom line is clear: it must be an art that suits your taste and is original (no commercially produced pseudo-artwork). Now I feel confident to share my work with the outside world. My artwork celebrates colours. They are important for our perception of the world and they also have an indisputable influence on our psyche. I like to explore diverse combinations and mix up unique paint tones. I intentionally display brush traces and paint drops to demonstrate the handmade aspect, the uniqueness of each piece, and the imperfections which are an indivisible part of life. I inject the emotions and moods which I feel during the creative process into my work. I hope the viewers can enjoy and experience the same.
