The ongoing situation in the Middle East is creating significant disruption across global container shipping and supply chains.

At Interfreight Logistics, we are closely monitoring developments and would like to share a brief overview of the current impact:

🔹 Severe disruption in key trade routes
The Strait of Hormuz — a critical global shipping corridor — has seen a drastic reduction in vessel movements, with traffic significantly restricted due to security risks.

🔹 Carriers suspending services & rerouting vessels
Major container lines have halted or reduced operations in the Gulf region, with vessels being diverted or held outside high-risk zones.

🔹 Global capacity constraints emerging
Up to 10% of the global container fleet is directly impacted, tightening available capacity and affecting scheduling reliability.

🔹 Freight rates and surcharges increasing
Rising fuel costs, insurance premiums, and operational risks are driving rate increases, with additional surcharges expected across multiple trades. Far East Freight Rates are experiencing strong increases whereas intra-Europe lanes are subject to Emergency Fuel Surcharges by all major carriers.

🔹 Longer transit times
Rerouting and avoidance of high-risk areas are adding 7–12 days to certain shipping lanes, impacting supply chain planning.

🔹 Port and cargo flow disruptions
Containers are being offloaded at alternative ports or delayed, creating operational challenges and additional logistics costs.

While the current impact is concentrated in the Middle East, prolonged disruption may have wider implications on global trade flows, capacity, and pricing.
