The trade winds are blowing and the hot May wahoo bite is over. It doesn't mean the end of fishing for a while, it just means it's time to mix it up a bit and be prepared with some options when you head out. Try live bait, deep dropping or jigging. Just like Aditya who jigged up this fine amberjack recently to take out another FOTW. The "lucky dip" element of dropping small jigs on light gear over the drop off is what makes it such an exciting and rewarding way to fish. It is the next step in the progression of a young angler's fishing journey, give it a crack!

As we are experiencing a sustained period of good weather and fishing, it's appropriate to acknowledge a wahoo as this week's FOTW. Here's Koa, one of our keener young anglers with a PB that may take him some time to beat. What a great fish and photo.
There's not many places in the world that these aquatic speeders are as accessible as here on Christmas Island. Wahoo provide us with immense enjoyment to catch but more importantly are a major contributor to our food security. At times like these it's easy to get carried away. Please follow bag limits and as with all of our marine resources, take only what you need. Tight lines!

Here's a Great Catch for Charlie. Dad is holding up her PB wahoo for the camera, well done Charlie! While there can obviously be just one FOTW each week so there can be a wait, we can put up Great Catches as soon as they come in so get on board.

This is what it's all about! While we love seeing the big fish here on FOTW, there's nothing like the smile from a young angler who's selected their lure, tied it on themselves and then pulled in their prize. What a sense of achievement, and it gets rewarded with this week's FOTW. Well done Linc, and a big 👍 to the photographer for such a great picture which really captured the moment.

Here's Kobi with a big GT for FOTW. Kobi used a kayak to get out with his mates in the Cove at night to target this fish, a great effort and initiative shown by that crew. Thanks to everyone for the continued support of FOTW, it's the highlight of our week at Shorefire. And just a little plug for the shop, the ship was in this week so we've got plenty of new stock being unpacked with more to come during the week. Tight lines everyone!

Our apologies to Frankie, holiday brain got to me and I missed the opportunity to post up his picture. Better late than never, here’s Frankie with this week's FOTW. It's not his first FOTW but it's probably his first jigging, and with no help from Dad! Frankie's tip for jigging for cod is to use an assist hook that has a squid skirt and work the bottom couple of meters nice and slow. Well done Frankie!

It's taken a few weeks to get this one up, there's no preferential treatment for staff here at Shorefire. Here's Shaz with a ripping Cocos bonefish caught on fly for this week's FOTW. Also a big proud Dad moment for his old man who was one of the pioneers of the Cocos fly fishery. Great work lads!

It looks like it was a beautiful morning for an ANZAC Day dawn service on Christmas Island. Sorry we couldn't be there this year but much love to everyone who attended services on both our Indian Ocean island homes, or anywhere else. Lest We Forget.
This week we have Ruby with a great size GT that she caught out in the family boat while slow trolling in close to the drop off. Well done Ruby, congratulations on another FOTW.
And it looks like a weekend of sensational boating weather on CI. Best of luck to all the girls and ladies who are participating in the Sonja Davidson Fishing Competition tomorrow, can't wait to see the results.

In line with other businesses in the Settlement area, Shorefire will adopt the following opening hours over the ANZAC day long weekend. Lest we forget.

The weather is good, boat ramp is calm and it's time to go fishing. Just like Riley, who takes our FOTW this week with this stunning Coronation Trout. Riley was out in the family boat dropping jigs to the bottom when he hooked this beauty. What a great picture of a very happy young angler, and extra points for repping the Shorefire shirt. Just a reminder of Shorefire's limted opening hours until May 8th, 3pm to 5pm weekdays and 9am to 1pm Saturdays.
