The way Curaçao pays is changing.
Instant Payments are not something far in the future. Curaçao and Sint Maarten already have the infrastructure in place to process local interbank payments within seconds, 24/7/365. Now the next steps are taking shape.

The Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten (CBCS) is working on further expanding the payment landscape, including broader access for Payment Service Providers and, ultimately, the possibility of facilitating international payments through the Instant Payment network.

For businesses, that could have a very practical impact.Faster access to funds can improve cash flow. New payment providers can create more choice. And international payments becoming faster and easier would be particularly relevant for an economy as internationally connected as Curaçao.But every new way of paying also has to fit into what is already running behind the counter.

For hospitality and retail businesses, a payment does not end when the customer taps a card or phone. It still has to reach the POS correctly, be reconciled, appear in the right reports and eventually make its way through the back office.

We’ve come a long way from shells to instant payments. The real progress is being able to adopt those changes without adding unnecessary complexity to the operation.
