U okviru projekta GlucoAdjust, imali smo sjajnu priliku da učestvujemo na Evropskoj noći istraživača () u Beogradu! 🧪🇷🇸

Na našem štandu razgovarali smo o retkim bolestima, poput glikogenoze tip Ib, i istraživali obrasce nasleđivanja sa decom svih uzrasta, objašnjavajući kako se osobine poput boje kose, pegica ili krvne grupe nasleđuju od roditelja. 🧬✨
Postavili smo i mikroskop, pa su mališani mogli da zavire u svet genetike kroz uzorke bukalnog brisa!

Veče je bilo ispunjeno pitanjima, uzbuđenjem i radoznalošću. Ko zna, možda smo i inspirisali neke buduće naučnike! 👩🏻‍🔬👨🏻‍🔬💡

As part of the GlucoAdjust project, we had the amazing opportunity to take part in the European Researchers’ Night () in Belgrade! 🧪🇷🇸

At our stand, we talked about rare diseases, such as glycogen storage disease Ib, and explored inheritance patterns with children of all ages - showing how traits like hair color, freckles, or blood type are inherited from our parents. 🧬✨
We even had a microscope set up so kids could take a close look at buccal swab samples and get a glimpse of the science behind genetics!

It was a fantastic evening filled with questions, excitement, and brilliant young minds. Who knows, maybe we helped inspire a few future scientists! 👩🏻‍🔬👨🏻‍🔬💡

Na ovogodišnjem FEBS3+ kongresu imali smo priliku da predstavimo rezultate naših istraživanja i razmenimo iskustva sa kolegama i partnerima. 🔬
Dr Anita Skakić održala je predavanje pod nazivom “CRISPR/Cas9 and iPSC-based platforms to explore pathophysiology and therapeutic approaches in glycogen storage disease type Ib”, gde je istaknuta važnost savremenih ćelijskih modela u razumevanju ove retke bolesti i razvoju terapijskih pristupa.

Takođe, Marina Parezanović predstavila je poster Spasovski et al. “Establishment of an insulin resistance model in HepG2 cells using combined high glucose and insulin treatment”, sa fokusom na uspostavljanje eksperimentalnog sistema za istraživanje mehanizama insulinske rezistencije.

✨ GlucoAdjust at the FEBS3+ Congress ✨

At this year’s FEBS3+ Congress, we had the opportunity to present our research findings and exchange knowledge with colleagues and project partners. 🔬
Dr. Anita Skakić held a lecture titled “CRISPR/Cas9 and iPSC-based platforms to explore pathophysiology and therapeutic approaches in glycogen storage disease type Ib”, highlighting the significance of modern cellular models in understanding this rare disorder and advancing therapeutic strategies.

In addition, Marina Parezanović presented the poster by Spasovski et al. “Establishment of an insulin resistance model in HepG2 cells using combined high glucose and insulin treatment”, focusing on the development of an experimental system to provide deeper insights into mechanisms of insulin resistance.

GlucoAdjust projekat je pružio podršku NORBS-u ( ) na Trgu republike u okviru aktivnosti povodom Dana retkih bolesti! Regionalna kampanja , čiji je organizator za Srbiju NORBS, bavi se podizanjem svesti i informisanosti o retkim bolestima. Ove godine ćemo 28. februar, Dan retkih bolesti, obeležiti zagrljajima, kako bismo pružili podršku osobama obolelim od retkih bolesti, izrazili solidarnost i poslali poruku zajedništva i razumevanja. 🫂💙


Rare Disease Day filled with hugs! 🫂🧬
The GlucoAdjust project supported NORBS () at Trg republike as a part of the activities for Rare Diseases Day! The regional campaign , which was organized by NORBS in Serbia, focuses on raising awareness and informing the public about rare diseases. This year, on February 28th, we’re celebrating Rare Disease Day with hugs to show our support for those affected by rare diseases, express solidarity, and send a message of unity and understanding. 🫂💙

Dan otvorenih vrata projekta GlucoAdjust, koji je finansiran u okviru PRIZMA poziva Fonda za nauku Republike Srbije, održaće se 16. decembra sa početkom u 15 časova u biblioteci IMGGI. Otvorenа vrata su namenjena informisanju lekara, zdravstvenih radnika, istraživača, osoba sa glikogenozom 1b, osoba sa dijabetesom tip 2 i šire javnosti o GlucoAdjust projektu.

Danas obeležavamo Svetski dan dijabetesa!
Ovaj dan se obeležava svake godine 14. novembra, simbolično, na dan rođenja Frederika Bantinga, koji je zajedno sa Čarlsom Bestom otkrio insulin 1922. godine.
Više od 500 miliona ljudi koji boluju od dijabetesa se svakodnevno suočava sa brojnim izazovima, trudeći se da budu organizovani i odgovorni kako bi poboljšali svoje fizičko i mentalno zdravlje.
Svetski dan dijabetesa je prilika da im pružimo podršku i da pomogmemo u podizanju svesti o ovoj bolesti.
U susret ovogodišnjem danu dijabetesa Dr Maja Stojiljković, PI GlucoAdjust projekta, je tokom posete studenata iz Centra za razvoj karijere IMGGI-ju održala predavanje o projektu i posebno skrenula pažnju na aspekt koji se bavi dijabetesom i na važnost izučavanja ove bolesti. 👩🏻‍🔬

Today, we mark World Diabetes Day!
It is held every year on November 14, symbolically on the birthday of Frederick Banting, who, together with Charles Best, discovered insulin in 1922.
More than 500 million people living with diabetes face numerous challenges every day, striving to stay organized and responsible to improve their physical and mental health.
World Diabetes Day is an opportunity for us to offer them support and help raise awareness about this disease.
In anticipation of this year’s Diabetes Day, Dr. Maja Stojiljković, PI of the GlucoAdjust project, gave a lecture to students from the Career Development Center during their visit to IMGGE. She discussed the project, highlighting the aspect focused on diabetes and the importance of studying this disease. 👩🏻‍🔬

GlucoAdjust na Evropskoj noći istraživača 👩🏻‍🔬👨🏻‍🔬🧬🔬

Ovog petka bio je učesnik na manifestaciji Noć istraživača 2024. u organizaciji i .za.fizicku.hemiju. Učesnici projekta su na zanimljiv i interaktivan način posetiocima predstavili koncept nasleđivanja i genetičkih varijanti. ‘Da li je svaka promena u genu štetna? Možemo li predvideti koju krvnu grupu će nam dete imati? Da li osoba može imati retku bolest ako su mu roditelji zdravi?’. Odgovarali smo na ova i još mnoga interesantna pitanja a naši najmlađi posetioci dobili su i zanimljive poklončiće.

GlucoAdjust at European Researchers’ Night

This Friday, participated in the 2024 Researchers’ Night, organized by IMGGE and the Faculty of Physical Chemistry. The participants of the project presented the concept of inheritance and genetic variants in an interesting and interactive way. ‘Is every genetic variant harmful? Can we predict the blood type of the child based on the parents’ blood type? Can a person have a rare disease even if their parents are healthy?’ We answered these, as well as many other fascinating questions, and our youngest visitors also received some interesting gifts.

Dr Maja Stojiljković, rukovodilac projekta bila je član komisije za odbranu završnog rada na Hemijskom fakultetu, Univerziteta u Beogradu. Rad pod nazivom ‘Kloniranje i ekspresija rekombinantne G6PT u E. coli i P. pastoris’ pod mentorstvom dr Radivoja Prodanovića uspešno je urađen u okviru projekta i bio je još jedan povod za okupljanje i razmenu ideja među učesnicima GlucoAdjust tima.”

Dr Maja Stojiljkovic, PI of the project was in the committee for the BSc thesis defense at the Faculty of chemistry, University of Belgrade. The work entitled “Cloning and expression of recombinant G6PT in E. coli and P. pastoris” under the mentorship of dr Radivoje Prodanovic was successfully carried out as part of the project and it was yet another reason for exchange of ideas between team members.

Dr Vesna Spasovski je, ispred tima, posetila Tehničku školu “Mileta Nikolić” u Aranđelovcu. Srednjoškolcima je održala predavanje pod nazivom “Parakrini efekat matičnih ćelija u regeneraciji hrskavice” i upoznala ih sa temom projekta koji je podržan od strane Fonda za nauku Republike Srbije ( ). 🧬👩🏻‍🔬 Uz zanimljivo predavanje i nova saznanja u oblasti matičnih ćelija, srednjoškolcima su predstavljena i istraživanja u okviru projekta.

Dr. Vesna Spasovski, representing the team, visited the “Mileta Nikolić” Technical School in Aranđelovac. She gave a lecture titled “Paracrine Effect of Stem Cells in Cartilage Regeneration” and presented the project, which is supported by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia ( ). 🧬👩🏻‍🔬 Along with an interesting lecture and new insights into the field of stem cells, the high school students were also presented with research being conducted as part of the project.

Dr Kristel Klaassen Ljubičić, članica tima, posetila je gimnaziju u Vrnjačkoj Banji i potrudila se da srednjoškolcima približi temu retkih i čestih bolesti, kao i da im predstavi projekat podržan od strane Fonda za nauku Republike Srbije ( ). 👩🏻‍🔬 Poseta je organizovana u okviru manifestacije Evropska noć istraživača ( ), a srednjoškolci su imali priliku da nauče o glikogenozi tip Ib, kao i da se upoznaju sa istraživanjima u okviru projekta.🔬🧬

Promotion of science is very important, especially among the youth!

Dr. Kristel Klaassen Ljubičić, a member of the team, visited the gymnasium in Vrnjačka Banja and introduced the topic of rare and common diseases, as well as the project supported by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia ( ) to high school students. 👩🏻‍🔬 The visit was organized as a part of the Researcher’s Night ( ), and high school students had the opportunity to learn about glycogen storage disease type Ib and to get acquainted with the research within the project. 🔬🧬
