SolarButterfly
We are embarking on a world tour to visit and present all the existing ideas, projects, companies with solutions to climate change.
Larso, the SolarButterfly is a solar energy powered giant motorhome and studio, the first one of its kind.
The SolarButterfly is on the last journey, from Belem (Brasil) via Kourou (French Guiana) to Paramaribo (Suriname).
Jürg and André have crossed the Amazon rainforest and visited the European spaceport and the Ariane rocket in Kourou, French Guiana.
After travelling 95’000 km across 47 countries, the World Tour has coe to an end in the city of Paramaribo!
But our mission is not over yet, stay tuned!

The world trip may be over, but our next adventure is even more spectacular.
The SolarButterfly has reached Kourou in French Guiana. From here, we want to send a mini butterfly into space with an Ariane rocket. 🚀💫
With a video from space and the message of an astronaut.
we want to show all students on Earth that there is only one planet and we have to take care of it! 🌍🦋
Join us on our last leg of our world tour and let’s visit the Amazon rainforest. Did you know that Brasil has more than 120’000 animal species, more than any other country in the world?
Most of them live in the Amazon forest, and this forest also plays a critical role in regulating the global climate. But today, the Amazon is threatened not only by deforestation, but also by higher temperatures and droughts. Join us as we explore the beauty and vital importance of the Amazon rergion —the lungs of our planet that keep our live on Earth in balance.
The Amazon rainforest is a smybol for the climate crisis that we face, and that’s why we wanted to officially finish our SolarButterfly World Tour here in the city of Belem, at the UN World Climate Change Conference.
Here we did not only meet the press, but also the indigenous people. They came together from all parts oft he Amazon to send out a powerful message to the whole world, that their habitat is shrinking.
Not only deforestation, but also the use of fossil fuels must be stopped. After the conference we decided to travel deep into the Amazon forest, to see the beauty of this region, with our own eyes.
With our great crew Nico and Silas we boarded the Rondonia, one of the few vessels that connect the little towns along the Amazon river. What an adventure! Join us and see the beauty of this undiscovered, and threatened, land! And be part of the solution. Don’t be a sloth. Act now. Use ecosia.
There is no time to waste!
The Solar Butterfly is traveling from Brasília to Palmas using only solar power.
A quiet journey through the heart of Brazil, showing how clean energy can take us forward.
How can the waste of a multimillion city like Rio de Janeiro be recycled?
Look at this great example, the Coperativa Coopideal. It is a cooperative of recyclable waste pickers located in Rio de Janeiro.
It has been supported by BVRio through a training project aimed at improving the cooperative’s management and infrastructure.
The project is sustainable and pioneering, as it formalizes and digitizes waste management, increases efficiency in recycling operations and strengthens the circular economy.
It is also generating social, environmental and economic benefits for both the cooperative members and the wider community.
We hope a lot more cities all over the world can follow this great example!
Meet Alex in Santa Marria, Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, in his bakery.
With each bread sold, he is planting a tree, and so far he has planted more than 100’000 trees.
Follow the SolarButterfly Tour in Brasil.
In this episode from Viçosa to Belo Horizonte and Brasilia, through the endless landscapes and roads of Brasil, with our great team members Kaique, Nico and Silas.
The SolarButterfly visited an inspiring project in Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro — “Fishermen of Waste” by Ogyre. 🌊
This initiative empowers local fishermen to collect and remove plastic from the ocean, turning waste into purpose. ♻️
With Juliana Miranda from BVRio, we explored how this project connects people, technology, and sustainability for cleaner seas. 💙
Organic Solar Panels is a research and innovation project from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) in Curitiba.
The team is developing flexible, lightweight, and eco-friendly solar panels using organic materials.
Their mission: to make solar energy more accessible and sustainable for a cleaner future. 💚
We made it, halfway on our way to Belém in South America! 🌞
Simon, Reto, and Kaique have made it to Rio de Janeiro! 🇧🇷
Watch the video to see our incredible journey of the SolarButterfly along Brazil’s East Coast! 🦋☀️!
Join Simon, Reto, and Kaique on their inspiring SolarButterfly journey across Southern Brazil.
From Santa Maria to Porto Alegre, they visit the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and Lasalle University, sharing the mission of sustainable innovation and renewable energy.
🌎 The SolarButterfly tour across South America has started! 🚐✨
Follow Simon and Reto on their way from Colonia Suiza to Rivera, all the way across Uruguay! 🇺🇾
The team got to know a former Swiss settlement with lovely nice people, encountered a dinosaur egg, crossed a windfarm, and finally ended up in a small primary school. 💡🌱
