Yellowknife’s newest piece of public art is a hand painted bin, and it’s heading to Old Town soon! 🦊🐦⬛
I am so grateful to see my artwork become part of our community’s landscape. Getting to make a living as an artist in the North still feels like a dream, and I never take it for granted. Thank you to Det'on Cho Kavanaugh Waste Removal Services for sharing my work with their customers.
Would you like a painted bin in front of your business? Reach out to Kavanaugh for the details. I would love to paint one for you!
Which Yellowknife business should get one next? Tell me in the comments, and share this with a business owner who would love one. 💛

My MEd in Arts-Based Educational Inquiry at UBC is easily one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done. Some days the academic reading makes me feel like a confused middle schooler meeting Shakespeare for the first time. Other days, my studies hand me scissors and a highlighter, and I get to pass the result in as scholarship.
I’ve always known I wanted to be a teacher. Writing this poem found something more honest hiding inside that certainty: becoming an art teacher was never one fixed answer. It was a different way of being who, what, and where I want to be.

Meet the newest balloon animal! 🎈
This wolf is the latest addition to my balloon animal series. With a green balloon and a look that says he knows something you don’t, he’s ready to float into a new home.
Original mixed media painting on hot pressed paper
Size: 11x14
Matted, unframed: $175
Send me a message to claim him before he drifts away.

ART SHOW TODAY! Saturday Sept 19 at NUP. Lots of great crafters, artists, and food. We are there till 10 to 2pm. Drop by to say hi!
Another great day at the office! I’ve had to move inside because paint when it’s colder than 10°C does funny things.

What is going on?! 😂 My follower count has exploded and I have no idea why, but I am so glad you found me and my artwork!
Where are you from? Drop your town in the comments.
I’d love to know how far Facebook has pushed my paintings out into the world.
Every cent social media pays me for these videos goes back to another artist in the North. First purchase: a fish scale art piece by Jennifer Buckley of Hay River, from the Down to Earth Gallery in Yellowknife! See her work here: Aboriginal Fish Scale Art
Like, follow, save, or comment, so I can keep putting Meta money in the pockets of other northern artists!

This is the face of a woman who just opened her email at the pub.
Approved. The full amount of my medium arts grant from the NWT Arts Council.
Yes, I cried. In public. Over a pint. No regrets.
This one changes things. It means I can pay myself artist fees and finally make the non-commercial collection of paintings that has been holding court in my head for years. Two more months of contracts, commissions and projects, and then I tuck into a new phase of work that has me excited beyond expression.
I am so grateful to live in a place that values the arts and gives artists life changing funding to create new work. Thank you, NWT Arts Council.

My teacher colleagues are wrapping up their first week of classes, but my office looks a little different these days!
Mahsi cho to Det’on Cho Kavanaugh Waste Removal Services for inviting me to be part of this project!
And a big thank you to the businesses around Yellowknife who have been asking about custom painted dumpsters!! Turning a bin into a piece of local art might be my favourite job description yet.
If you would like your Kavanaugh recycling bin, compost bin or dumpster to become public art, contact [email protected].
My outdoor painting season is short, so I would love to get you on the list before the weather turns.
