As we began assembling an issue around sound, two writers proposed the same approach: Deanna Radford and Jane Harms compelled our listening toward voices. An emanation and an invitation — perhaps voice is less a specialization than a personalization of sound, concerned as much with space as with address. And refusal. After this suggestion, SOVNDS considers vocality and locality, intonation and identity, with an ear to what escapes transcription. — Cam & Kendra
