๐จ Canada Tightens Asylum Rules โ Key Change You Must Know (Bill C-12) ๐จ๐ฆ
On March 26, 2026, the Government of Canada passed Bill C-12, bringing major changes to asylum eligibility and immigration processing.
๐ IMPORTANT UPDATE (Effective for claims on or after June 3, 2025):
If you entered Canada after June 24, 2020 and wait more than 1 year to claim asylum, your case will NOT be referred to the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) โ even if you left and re-entered Canada.
โ ๏ธ This is a major shift. Delays can now completely block access to the refugee system.
๐ผ What this means for you:
โข Timing is now critical
โข Late claims may be refused without a hearing
โข You may only have limited options like PRRA
โ
What you should do:
โข Seek advice as early as possible
โข Do NOT delay your claim
โข Ensure your case is properly prepared from the start
๐ฉ Need guidance?
Embark Immigration Services Ltd. is here to help you navigate these changes and protect your future in Canada.
