INCUBATOR Hybrid Laboratory at the Intersection of Art, Science and Ecology is a physical and theoretical hub, a new art/science laboratory at The University of Windsor. Founded in 2009 it functions both as an apparatus in which environmental conditions can be controlled towards the assisted proliferation of life, but also as a site that supports the proliferation of new ideas โ new artistic practices.

Today is the day! The 3rd Annual Biodesign Challenge Symposium 2026 is happening NOW!
Dr. Jennifer Willet is presenting her research as a symposium speaker in NYC!
The Biodesign Symposium is an annual academic conference dedicated to progressive approaches to interdisciplinary biodesign pedagogy. As an emerging discipline, biodesign draws inspiration from arts and design, engineering, the social sciences and various biological subdisciplines to develop systems, processes, and objects that make essential use of biological functions. Conference proceedings aim to situate biodesign instructional theories within broader educational debates while also establishing domain-specific methodologies for deployment in the classroom.

'An Evening with David Suzuki' was a night to remember! ๐
The team at INCUBATOR Art Lab had a wonderful time attending David Suzuki's talk - he was full of passion and you could tell everyone in the room left feeling inspired by his words. We would like to thank Dr. Catherine Febria .febria of for inviting us to Pop Up at the event and to give the chance to meet one of her childhood heroes. โจ

Sharing more of the wonderful creations from our talented students in Dr. Jennifer Willet's bioart class!
Students in this year's class were asked to select, research, and construct a costume based on a microbe of their choosing. We can't stop talking about the craftsmanship and enthusiasm our students showcased for the Microbial Fashion Show at CAW Centre in March. Big thanks to for sponsoring the event!

We had an amazing time with some teachers from the Greater Essex County District School Board during this morning's workshop with Dr. Jennifer Willet!
We talked all things bioart, accessible and interdisciplinary education, and even did some painting with algae together as a group. We love working with other educators to dream up new ways of creating and learning. STEAM education is the future! ๐ฌ๐จ

Happy Earth Day! ๐
To celebrate, we're sharing some of Dr. Jennifer Willet's work with one of the world's most adaptable organisms - algae!
Algae Dress is a prototype that integrates fashion and costume design with the cultivation of live spirulina algae cultures. This installation includes an 8 foot tall humanoid/algae figure. A work of science fiction or magical realism, Algae Dress invites us to consider algaeโs numerous roles in our terrestrial ecology, and possible visions of biotech algae futures.
