We're fast approaching the launch of our Bookmobile "C.A.N.A.L. Cruiser", and here is a sneak peak at the fresh, new look we're bringing to the streets of Welland. Stay tuned for the unveiling as we ramp up for the official launch on June 23, 2026, from 3–5pm at our Main Branch.

Following the closure of the Welland County Library in 1970, the Welland Public Library purchased its 11-year-old bookmobile for just $1,000!⁠

Seen here in the 1977 Rose Parade wearing Welland Public Library’s new livery, the beloved bookmobile continued bringing library services to communities across the city for years to come.⁠

At the same time, WPL also purchased the former Welland County Library building at 650 South Pelham Rd. for $15,000, reopening it as the Northwest Branch in 1972. The branch served the community for nearly four decades before closing in 2009.⁠

More than 45 years after this Rose Parade appearance, a new generation of Niagara’s bookmobile is getting ready to make public appearances of its own.

Join Mika Woolley of for a hands on loom beading workshop where participants will create their own beaded bracelets!

Mika is Mohawk from Six Nations and has over four years of teaching experience. Come learn the rich history and cultural significance of loom beading.
