Art therapy is a versatile mental health approach designed to support individuals through various life challenges and psychological stressors.
While traditional talk therapy relies primarily on verbal communication, art therapy introduces visual and tactile media to help access, identify, and process complex emotional states.

Art therapy may be an effective approach if you are seeking support for:

• Stress management and burnout recovery

• Managing symptoms of anxiety or mild to moderate depression

• Processing difficult life transitions or emotional events

• Developing healthy coping strategies for emotional regulation

No artistic background or technical skill is required to participate in and benefit from art therapy sessions.

Art therapy is a mental health discipline that integrates visual media and creative processing into the therapeutic session. The focus is not on technical skill or creating a finished piece, rather, it utilizes creative expression to assist in self-awareness, stress reduction, and emotional regulation.

Benefits of Art Therapy:

•Assists in expressing complex emotions when words are difficult to find

•Promotes nervous system regulation and stress reduction

•Provides a structured, non-judgmental environment for self reflection

Art therapy services are suitable for individuals seeking alternative or complementary approaches to mental wellness. No prior art experience is necessary.

Walking Through a First Session

People sometimes ask me to explain it step by step, so here’s what your first appointment with me looks like.

Before you arrive: wear something comfortable. Eat something light beforehand if you can. Hydrate.

The check-in: we sit together first. I ask what brought you in, whether you’ve tried Reiki or any other energy work before, and if there’s anything specific you’re hoping to work with. There are no wrong answers. People come in for stress, sleep, grief, recovery from illness or surgery, or because they’re curious.

The session itself: you lie down on the table fully clothed. I dim the lights and take a few quiet moments to settle myself before I begin. Then I move through a series of hand positions, working from the head down through the body. Sometimes my hands rest lightly on you. Sometimes they hover above. I’m sensing as I go, a traditional technique called Byosen Reikan-Ho, where I notice areas that feel warmer, cooler, or more active than others.
You might feel warmth. You might feel a gentle pulsing or tingling. You might feel nothing in particular and drift off. All of those are normal. Many people fall asleep partway through, which is fine. Your body uses the time however it needs to.
I bring in other traditional tools depending on what your session calls for. A feather fan to gently sweep the space around the body. A quartz crystal bowl, which produces steady sound waves that help the nervous system drop into a calmer state. Vocal work as well, including the Gokai (the Five Precepts of Reiki) and high-frequency spirit whistling, which are sound practices passed down with the lineage.

After: you’ll come back slowly. Most people are quiet for a few minutes. We chat briefly about what you noticed, and I share anything from my side that might be useful. You go home, drink water, and let your body integrate.

There are different ways to treat muscle tightness and movement restrictions.

One approach we may use is instrument assisted soft tissue therapy, sometimes called IASTM. This involves using handheld tools to work on muscles and connective tissue. The tools help apply focused pressure to areas that are tight or not moving well. This can help break up restrictions in the tissue and improve how the muscle and surrounding tissue glide and move.

This approach is often used alongside hands on treatment and movement based care. The goal is to help muscles move more freely and support better overall movement.
