Do you live in Canada and own a business or provide a service or do you have an unwanted gift card or something like a brand new perfume or are you a maker of beautiful Canadian things?[ which can be put in a gift basket by Kim ]
Unless it is gift cards or something you can mail out or you don't mind meeting a bidder in your own town then for pick up Kim can do that in and around Victoria, BC.
You can be in NWT or PEI even and donate a voucher ♡

Do you have something Kim can pick up in Victoria for our Silent Auction? Or something you could take to Victoria? Vouchers? Bottles of plonk? Something beautiful you have made? Brand new items/ a service which can be auctioned?

Perhaps you have art? We love artists, force free dog trainer vouchers, boarding kennel vouchers from across Canada...

Are on on Vancouver Island or in BC or Alberta and have w**e or Spirits ? We could pick them up and send them to Kim if we are passing through your town with dogs.

" Our village has been kind to our Canadian born and Mexican born dogs because they care about dogs. So we received help to buy Moose's food after he was surrendered in West Kelowna. They also have helped us facilitate free spays in Victoria BC and have helped with gas when we had 4 dogs and 2 cats from Port Alberni ( born in Canada) surrendered by the family of a deceased person. Help also came for Northern Albertan kittens in ditches, to help get a grieving stranded mother and dogs home to Ontario from BC. Also when Edmontonians needed to help the abandoned dog of an incarcerated person, and other rescues refused, we stepped in. His adopters sent us the proceeds of recycling for one of their 3 restaurants for a few weeks. And yes...our village [ maybe yours no but ours yes] has stepped up for Texas death row dogs, dogfood for a low income family in Lethbridge, ocular surgery for a tiny suffering Calgary dog and the spayneuter events, rent, food, transport and medical care for dogs in our Mexican Program. Dogs arriving with ears and tails chopped off or tied up with cables or covered in diesel or with a foot half cut off have found sanctuary, veterinary care, nutrition and eventually new families thanks to the support of our village. Helping North American Continent dogs in Canada and Mexico are not mutually exclusive. Both is possible for OUR village. And our village is decent and compassionate and helps where the need arises. "

OCTOBER 🎃GETS OFF TO A GREAT START🎉

It is going to be a fantastic month!
A Halloween Spayday is happening as a highlight of this month. There is always so much happening at Flying Dogs in both Canada and Mexico. And in Catemaco we try to do a shopping every Friday before the weekend. Last year our Board decided we could provide also bread and milk and fruit and eggs and sandwich materials so the young Mexican staff can eat at work. This means nobody needs to leave site to find food [ and not get back for 2 hours ]and most domestic workers / cleaners in Mexico eat at their job. So it is culturally sensitive to provide some basics.

We cannot have only empathy for animals and zero empathy for the Mexican folks in Catemaco who look after them. Elevating our shelter staff makes them happy and then they are more joyful around the dogs and cats.

In the end it works out well and decreases absences. So there is that pragmatic component. Some board members also bought, out if their own pockets, beans, juice, fruit etc to share and send stuff on Amazon to the shelter. Then the bags of kibble and bleach and dishsoap and garbage bags and the puppy milk replacer powder and p*e pads galore....and we have a need for taxis for vet visits and shopping during the rainy season.
In Canada vet bills, kibble for some foster dogs, supplies, gas, van repairs...boarding fees.

Then we have all the rolling vet bills in Mexico.

And every Friday we need to raise at least $400 to get through the weekend.
Right now we have an odd Paypal situation whereby sponsorships and monthly donations transfer out daily automatically but take 3-4 days to hit the account. It will be ok once the system kicks in but right now we know the fastest funds arrive by Etransfer.

We are planning a Silent Auction in October too.

Anyway Friday is a bit stressful because of it being shopping day. However the good news is shelter rent is paid already...thanks to regular monthly support. Also we were able to cover the $60-$70 shortfall of Jacks vet bill which came to over$100 more than expected.

We are plodding along snd excited about our upcoming dog trip which will further cut down our costs in Mexico and increase our resources for Canadian projects too.

Your help pretty much comforts a lot of animals and our young shelter staff getting breakfast helps create more food security in an area where most youth drop out of school owing to poverty.
