Are you living with a four-legged teenager?

I was hanging out in the yard recently with my 10-month dog. In the span of about 5 minutes he ran zoomies, chewed a stick, tried to peel bark off the tree, dug a hole, pulled on a branch, scraped moss off the rocks with his paws, and dug another hole. This is not a bad dog. This is a dog who needed a job, and found himself several. Adolescent dogs have an enormous amount of energy and a very strong need to use their brains. If we don't give them something to do, they'll find something. In Intermediate class, we put that energy to work in ways that are fun for both of you!

Our next Intermediate class at the downtown SPCA location starts on Tuesday June 30 at 8pm. Click here to sign up: https://smartdogtraining.dogbizpro.com/public/registration/index.aspx?schedule=1518

Woohoo's, yahoos and good job buddies were in abundance at our AAC trial this weekend. A very big thank you to Paula Collins or tireless judge... it is truly magical when a judge can keep young and old so thrilled with the game. Your skills as a designer are so apparent as we watch everyone execute so many different options that were made available to handlers on each run. Truly excellent courses for everyone! Also thanks to all those who came out early, stayed late or were just generally attended to the behind the scenes details. It really does take a village to have these things work and although its a small village, it just wouldn't be possible without each and everyone of you.. Stay tuned for brags and money raised for the food bank.

Kin (6 months old) showing off his growing understanding of what it means to go to a station (a mat, bed, or crate) in an Intermediate class.

Kin is a busy, social little guy who would have loved to run over the instructor taking this recording! Instead, he's learning that hanging out on his station, even with other dogs and other people all around him, is a thing he enjoys doing!

Goose showing off his distance down cue in one of our Intermediate classes.

Just because a dog can do something directly in front of you doesn't automatically mean that he can do it at a distance. We start with a tiny bit of distance, then build up to more as the dog's confidence increases.

Good job, Goose!
