🌟 Artist Spotlight: Francis Dick & Jesse Campbell 🌟

We’re honoured to highlight two incredible artists for An Evening for Truth and Reconciliation: Music, Art, and Dialogue (Sept 29) 🧡.

🎨 Francis Dick – Creator of the artwork inspiring our new mural. A Kwakwaka’wakw Nation artist, Francis draws deeply from her cultural heritage and has shared her work around the world.

🖌 Jesse Campbell – Muralist bringing Francis’s design to life at the Conservatory entrance (900 Johnson St). Jesse is a Michif artist, public arts consultant, and mentor to emerging Indigenous artists.

Both artists will be at the event to speak about the mural, which will also be celebrated through a live performance on the guitar that inspired the design, played by Cedar Lopatecki 🎶.

🎶 27 Years Ago Today! 🎶

On September 25, 1998, our Performance Hall was officially dedicated and named Alix Goolden Performance Hall. The celebration featured a concert directed by Harry Newstone, with unforgettable performances including Mozart’s Concerto for Three Pianos and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music.

We were thrilled to hear music brought to life by talented artists like Barbara Livingston and Winifred Wood, along with many others who shared their artistry that day.

💛 Today, Alix Goolden Performance Hall continues to inspire musicians and audiences alike—thank you to everyone who has been part of its rich history!

Experience the world premiere of JÉHANNE, a powerful new opera by Opera Quest Artistic Director Colin Doroschuk, exploring the extraordinary vision quest of Joan of Arc. Featuring a bilingual libretto (English and French), a cast of emerging Canadian opera artists, and a unique blend of acoustic, electric, and electronic instrumentation.

Presented by Opera Quest, a paid training and performance program for emerging singers at the Victoria Conservatory of Music.

🎻 July 8 – Strings Faculty in Concert
A vibrant evening of chamber music featuring works by Estacio, Kodály, and Mendelssohn, performed by renowned faculty Müge Büyükçelen, Nancy DiNovo, Clayton Leung, and Brian Yoon.

🎼 July 15 – A Musical Banquet
Enjoy a delicious baroque program with faculty from Victoria Baroque, Pacific Baroque Orchestra, and early music specialists from across North America. Bach, Handel, and a few delightful surprises await!

🌍 August 23 – Earth Song
The Choral Intensive finale features the Emily Carr String Quartet and powerful works exploring the intersection of music and climate, including a new commission by Iman Habibi.
