Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Rhona McAdam R.H.N. Holistic nutrition sees the body as a whole entity, not a machine made up of removable parts.

We treat our bodies badly by eating a poor diet and living stressful, sedentary and toxic lives. We depend on an increasingly burdened medical system to keep us healthy. This system is itself dependent on the pharmaceutical industry, which can be a lifesaver -- but taking its products as directed can also create a cascade of medical problems. Big Pharma, like Big Food, has obligations to profit its shareholders and works hard to keep the public ignorant of the harm its products do to those who consume them. To keep our bodies working properly we must treat them well: optimizing nutrition and paying attention to lifestyle choices. We need to understand the mental and physical effects of our diet, lifestyle and pharmaceuticals. Once those areas are corrected, our bodies will be ready to return look after themselves, as they were designed to do. Conditions that may be helped in this way include food allergies & intolerance, acid reflux, diabetes, parasites, candida, low energy, irritable bowel diseases, indigestion, high blood pressure, insomnia, arthritis, and more.

Long long ago a clever Irish pharmacist advised me to eat yogurt every day. She said it would keep candida away, but it clearly has many other benefits besides instilling bravery (per Gengis Khan). We've had a long time to study its effects since Gengis, and here are some good things to know about it. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1279770726001752?via%3Dihub

Swedish study reinforces what Canadian IBD experts have been seeing for years 08/11/2026

The gut is known as the "second brain" for good reason.

Swedish study reinforces what Canadian IBD experts have been seeing for years A new study suggests people with inflammatory bowel disease face an elevated risk of depression, anxiety and substance misuse years before diagnosis and long afterward. Canadian experts say the findings reinforce the need to make mental health screening and support a routine part of IBD care.

At least 80% responsibility for ill health in old age down to individual, study says 05/24/2026

He's not wrong, but "personal choice" is truly not available to everyone. Thinking yes, poverty.. thinking people forced to eat institutional foods, working multiple jobs, living in food deserts.. etc.

Oxford Report Sparks Fury by Claiming You're 80% to Blame for Your Own Bad Health in Old Age (The Guardian, 2026-05-20)
Summary: Guardian reporter Amelia Hill covers a controversial new UK report, "Living Longer, Better—the Oxford Longevity Project's first Age-less Report," launched at the Smart Ageing Summit in Oxford and sponsored by the supplement firm Oxford Healthspan. The report, co-authored by Sir Christopher Ball (a 91-year-old former Parachute Regiment officer who aims to reach 100), Sir Muir Gray, Dr. Paul Ch'en, Leslie Kenny, and Professor Denis Noble, argues that at least 80% of poor health in old age is down to personal choices, not genes or government. Ball points to twin studies and analysis from nearly 500,000 UK Biobank participants suggesting environment and lifestyle outweigh inherited genetics in shaping aging. The report's recommendations are blunt: avoid processed foods, abstain completely from alcohol ("Alcohol is toxic, don't drink it," says Ball), prioritize sleep, stop eating after 6:30 p.m., and adopt a "not-meat mindset." It also urges the UK government to regulate alcohol the way it regulates smoking. Critics push back hard: Harvard social epidemiologist Nancy Krieger says it ignores poverty, work conditions, and government policies that let corporations sell unhealthy products. Professors Steven Woolf (Virginia Commonwealth University) and Jay Olshansky (University of Illinois Chicago) call the 80% figure oversimplified and unrealistic. Edinburgh public-health chair Devi Sridhar broadly agrees with the number but points out that strong links between income and health suggest policy matters too. Ball's response: blaming yourself is empowering—"if you're responsible, you can do something about it."

Worth noting: Glyphosate (and other herbicides) has been sprayed on cereal crops, to allow easier harvest, since 1992. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1D44dEUcGD/

Sustain: The Alliance For Better Food And Farming member Soil Association has launched as petition that calls on the government to deliver:

> A ban on using the weedkiller glyphosate to dry crops before harvest
> Stronger protections on pesticide residues in food
> Support for farmers to transition to more nature-friendly farming practices

You can find out more and sign on the Soil Association website.

The petition is accompanied by an open letter with more than 25 signatories, which calls for a ban on the pre-harvest spraying with glyphosate.

Glyphosate (better known by the trade name Roundup) is one of the world’s most used weedkillers, though not by certified organic farmers. It is also commonly applied directly to crops by ‘conventional’ and even some ‘regenerative’ farmers just days before harvest to dry grains, pulses and other seeds.

This typically leaves residues in the (not-certified-organic) food we eat, including breakfast cereals, chickpeas, lentils, b**r, rapeseed oil, industrial dough products and even Real Bread. The many products of maize and soy mean that glyphosate is found across our shopping baskets and plates.

In 2015, the World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), concluded that the glyphosate was ‘probably carcinogenic to humans.’
