UVic Formula Racing
Each year we design and build a formula style race car to participate in the Formula SAE collegiate We are a 100% student run organization.
Generally, we design during the week and hit the shop on Saturdays. Every year we compete against other universities from around the world with a new and improved machine. As of 2020, we are also building a fully electric car in addition to our internal combustion vehicle. We are the top ranked Canadian team West of the GTA, 9th overall in Canada! We also do this with one of the smallest budgets!

With the conclusion of the 2026 season, it’s about time we give some much needed shoutouts!
First up is the amazing !
We were graciously able to manufacture our aero package this year thanks to the incredible resources at Harwood!

Happy International Women in Engineering Day! 💜
Engineering is stronger because of the women who challenge assumptions, solve complex problems, and push innovation forward.
Today, we celebrate the women who paved the way, the women leading change today, and the girls who will redefine what’s possible tomorrow.
While women now make up nearly 1 in 5 engineering students in Canada, nearly half leave the profession due to barriers such as workplace culture, limited advancement opportunities, and a lack of inclusion.
At UVic Formula Racing, we’re committed to building a team where everyone has the opportunity to learn, lead, and contribute meaningfully. We believe the best engineering happens when diverse perspectives are empowered, valued, and heard!

Building a racecar was never supposed to be easy.
UV26 drove for the first time the day before it left for Michigan.
From late nights in the shop to 2 a.m. problem solving sessions in hotel parking lots, this season was a reminder that progress isn’t linear. Things break. Plans change.
Every challenge was met by someone willing to pick up a tool, open a laptop, or stay one more hour.
Whether it was hours spent in hot work, chasing parts around the paddock, or simply making sure the team was fed and hydrated, everyone found a way to contribute.
Still, nobody quit.
The result wasn’t what we hoped for. But results don’t tell the whole story.
History was made when UVic Formula Racing’s first driving electric racecar rolled onto competition grounds. History was made every time someone chose to stay and fight through one more problem.
This car drives and this car is fast. Every single member walked away a better engineer because of it. This is only the beginning.

Building a race car from the ground up takes more than technical skill, it takes resilience. Through setbacks, redesigns, and unexpected challenges, our team has learned that progress comes from persistence.
From the first simulation to late nights in the shop and spending one too many hours sanding one too many things, build season has been a JOURNEY.
As we work toward UVic’s first-ever Formula SAE Electric car, our team continues to push forward. Whether you’re laying up aero, wiring the accumulator, writing code, or jumping in wherever help is needed, every contribution matters.
Here’s to the stellar people making history, one late night at a time. ⚡🏎️
