Each year we design and build a formula style race car to participate in the Formula SAE collegiate We are a 100% student run organization.

Generally, we design during the week and hit the shop on Saturdays. Every year we compete against other universities from around the world with a new and improved machine. As of 2020, we are also building a fully electric car in addition to our internal combustion vehicle. We are the top ranked Canadian team West of the GTA, 9th overall in Canada! We also do this with one of the smallest budgets!

It’s and our final one of the season!

Today we’re spotlighting Eddy, one of UVFR’s veteran drivers and a core part of our racing program.

A business student with a lifelong love for cars, Eddy grew up racing autocross and has been behind the wheel for UVFR for the past few years. He leads driver training, dials in car setups, and makes sure everything feels just right on track.

Eddy’s got that rare driver’s intuition, the kind that can tell when the suspension’s off by feel alone. Whether he’s coaching new drivers or shaving tenths off a lap, he brings precision, consistency, and calm confidence every time he straps in.

His dream? Obviously to be a professional race car driver, duh.

That’s a wrap on this year’s Meet the Leads series, it’s been a blast introducing the people behind UV26. Stay tuned for an exciting season ahead… things are just getting started. 🏁🏎️

🦃 and we’ve got a lot to be thankful for this weekend 👇

Huge thanks to for supporting the team and making precision like this possible. With their software, we’ve been machining parts for our dyno, the final piece before we can start testing our electric powertrain in-house.

From the first chip to the final flywheel, none of this would be possible without industry tools like Mastercam that help turn designs into reality.

It’s and today we’re spotlighting Will, our Shop Lead for UV26!

Currently in his second year of university, Will joined UVFR last year and quickly became one of the team’s go-to people for anything that needs building, fixing, or welding. Passionate about engines and always ready to jump in, he’s the guy you’ll find fabricating jigs, working on the pit or charging cart, or just keeping the shop running smoothly.

With sharp hands-on skills and a knack for problem-solving under pressure, Will’s the kind of person who keeps things moving.

It’s not , but we’re still so thankful for for supporting UVic Formula Racing!

Their sponsorship not only helps us develop our cars every year, but also brings incredible opportunities for students to learn directly from alumni and industry professionals through the CEWIL Talks series.

Our first talk kicks off this Sunday, Oct 5 at 11AM, featuring our very own Peter Touchinski. Former Team Principal, now working with Red Bull Advanced Technologies! 🏎️✨

Stay tuned for more CEWIL talks throughout the fall semester!

It’s and today we’re spotlighting Darby, our Drivetrain Lead for UV26!

A mechanical engineering student, Darby joined UVFR last year on the IC powertrain team but quickly started lending a hand wherever it was needed. From drivetrain to aero to suspension. That broad experience set him up to take the reins of drivetrain this season, where he’s now leading one of the most critical subsystems on the car.

Ambitious and driven, Darby’s dream is to take his engineering career all the way to Formula 1 and he’s wasting no time getting started.

🛞 It’s and today we’re spotlighting Curtis, our Suspension Lead for UV26!

A mechanical engineering student in his second year on the team, Curtis has already stepped into one of the most dynamic subsystems on the car: suspension. From geometry to packaging, he’s the one making sure our car keeps all four tires planted and ready to attack every corner.

With a sharp eye for detail and a drive to learn, Curtis has quickly gone from rookie to lead proving that it doesn’t take long to make a big impact at UVFR. His dream? To take that same precision and problem-solving into a career in manufacturing.

It’s and today we’re giving a huge thank-you to Axolotl Biosciences for their continued support of UVFR.

Founded by our faculty advisor, Dr. Stephanie Willerth, Axolotl is leading the way in 3D bioprinting for regenerative medicine right here in Victoria. Their dedication to innovation and pushing boundaries mirrors the values we bring to designing and building race cars.

We’re grateful to have Axolotl backing our team as we train the next generation of engineers and represent UVic on the global stage.
