🎶This August we got together for our 5th summer of camps! 2024's Sound Design Camp brought youth aged 11-17 together to create an original album in one week. Sasha & Aaron were inspired by the creative young artists who dove deep into the nerdy, rich universe of sound design, composition and recording in Ableton Live.
This year's two albums: "TR33DOM" and "Slightly Sharp: The 450 Hz Experience" can now be streamed on our bandcamp page:

Thank you to St. Michael's University School for hosting our camp and to all the artists, parents & staff who helped make this possible. Until next year...

One month ago we wrapped up our third year of summer camps. This year's Sound Design Camp, presented in partnership with St. Michaels University School, was a real adventure for us. We collaborated with emerging music producers, aged 11-16, to study the techniques of sound design and produce an original album in a week. This year's albums, "Life in Da Box" and "Fossils of Obamanation", are a testament to the artistry, dedication and collaborative talents of our campers this year. Kudos to them all.
Please take time to listen to the work that we're so proud to share at:

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to run this camp. Many thanks to SMUS, UVic, parents, guest speakers and the youth who helped make the magic happen.

So grateful and inspired at the end of another session of the Found Sound Project! This July 2021 cohort, conducted in partnership with St. Michaels University School, was amazing! Emerging composers came together for one week to form the artist's collective known as F.B.I.C. (Four Boys Inside with Computers). Together, these youth engaged with the rich sonic world around them, crafting unique compositions in Ableton Live. We encourage people to hear their work on the FSP website at: https://foundsoundproject.opened.ca/learners-work/
This project is such an enriching and evolving experience for us. This coming year will be an exciting one for the FSP as we launch our first satellite project in Behchokǫ̀, Northwest Territories. It is our goal to connect young composers from across the country through shared curiousity and love of sound.

After each excursion into the wild, campers return to the Sound Lab where we review the sounds we've captured, explore new techniques in audio production, and transform inspirations into published projects.

The Found Sound Project is an art camp where learners embark on a quest to gain a deeper understanding of the sonic world that surrounds us. From July 19-23 learners will explore the local Lekwungen environment, recording and sampling sounds for experimentation in our fully-featured sound lab at St. Michaels University School. Campers perform many roles – listener, player, engineer, arranger and storyteller – in order to produce a unique piece with modern music production tools including Ableton Live. This inquiry-driven experience is based upon principles of place-based learning, multidisciplinary design and accessibility. Our goal is to encourage young composers and foster the development of each learner’s artistic identity.
