Rugby Canada is saddened to hear of the passing of Gudmund (Gudy) Gudmundseth. Gudy was a passionate and beloved member of the Canadian rugby community having played for Vic High, Oak Bay Wanderers, UVic, and BC Rugby. He was instrumental in the purchase and development of Cowichan Rugby Club's Piggy Park where he served as president and coach. He earned his first Canadian Cap vs Wales in 1973 and was the first CRFC player to represent Canada on the international stage.

Our thoughts are with Gudy’s family, friends, and loved ones, as well as the Cowichan Rugby Club community, who shared in his remarkable journey.

The Race to Saratoga 🏆⛰️

It’s all to play for this Saturday, June 20 in Terrace as the Northmen host the final day of Central Interior competition for 2026.

The 4-0 Williams Lake Rustlers are in the driver’s seat to qualify for the 2026 Saratoga Cup in Fernie. Williams Lake will play Prince Rupert Men’s Rugby and Terrace Northmen Rugby Club to seal their spot as Central Interior Champions. Terrace gas an opportunity to overtake Williams Lake if they secure two wins on the Final Day.

In the Kootenays, the Rocky Mountain Rogues look to close out a perfect regular season over their regional rivals Elk Valley R.F.C Elk Valley has an opportunity to take poll position in the race for the Kootenays Cup. 3rd-Place Trail RFC continued to improve in their sophomore season. As Elk Valley Bulls are hosts of this year’s Saratoga Cup, the Kootenays region will feature the top two Kootenays Cup teams.

The Okanagan League race continues with a pivotal matchup between the Vernon Rugby Club and the Penticton Harlequins RFC. A win for Vernon can see them through to a home final and avoid the 2v3 Semi-Final rematch with Penticton. The Okanagan League final winner will book their ticket to the Saratoga Cup in Fernie on August 8-9.
