Following China's recent unannounced missile tests in the Pacific (including a submarine launch on July 6):

🔹 Joint Statement by 41 Nations: The U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the UK, Japan, and other allies issued a joint statement urging transparent advance notification to prevent accidental escalation.
🔹 Direct Concerns Raised: The U.S. delegation reiterated these grave concerns at the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.
🔹 Taiwan’s Commitment: Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung reaffirmed that peace in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific is a vital global interest.

Confronted with China's military intimidation and grey-zone coercive tactics, Taiwan will remain steadfast in standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our democratic partners!

近期太平洋地區的飛彈試射因未遵循國際標準通報，引發國際高度關切：

🔹 41國聯合聲明：美國、加拿大、日本、南韓、澳洲、紐西蘭、馬紹爾群島、帛琉、菲律賓等 41 國共同呼籲，應建立透明、常態化的事前通報機制，避免意外與誤判升高情勢。
🔹 美方正面關切：美方官員於日內瓦「裁軍談判會議」中指出，中國於 7 月 6 日向太平洋試射潛射飛彈，事前並未進行充分通報。
🔹 台灣立場：林佳龍部長對國際社會共同發聲表示高度歡迎與肯定。

中國透過軍事恫嚇、經濟脅迫、認知戰及灰色地帶侵擾等手段企圖片面改變現狀，已對區域安全造成威脅。維護台海與印太區域的和平穩定是全球共同利益，台灣將持續與理念相近夥伴攜手合作，堅定守護區域繁榮！

【維護印太和平穩定　國際社會共同關切中國威脅行徑】

美、日、韓、馬紹爾群島、帛琉、菲律賓、澳、紐等41國共同發布聯合聲明，關切近期太平洋地區的飛彈試射未遵循多數國家採行的標準通報及協調做法，呼籲各國建立透明且常態化的事前通報機制，以降低誤判及意外升高情勢的風險。

美方官員也在日內瓦「裁軍談判會議」中，對中國今年7月6日向太平洋試射潛射飛彈時，未提供充分且適當的事前通知表達關切。

佳龍部長歡迎並肯定國際社會共同發聲，展現對 #印太區域安全 的重視。

中國持續擴張軍力，並透過軍事恫嚇、經濟脅迫、認知戰及軍機艦侵擾等各類灰色地帶手法企圖片面改變現狀，不只威脅台灣，也對區域和平穩定構成嚴峻挑戰。

Global concern for Indo-Pacific peace & stability in wake of PRC missile tests!

Forty-one countries, including the US, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Marshall Islands, Palau, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand, have issued a joint statement expressing concern that recent PRC missile testing activity in the Pacific area did not follow the standard practices adopted by most states to notify and deconflict ICBM, SLBM, and SLV launches. The statement called on all relevant countries to commit to participating in arrangements for providing advance notification of launches to affected states to reduce the risk of miscalculation and avoid an escalation of tensions.

During a Geneva Conference on Disarmament, a US official also expressed shared concern with an irresponsible approach to notifying recent ICBM testing activity in the Pacific area, with regard to the PRC's July 6 test of a submarine-launched nuclear-capable ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean.

MOFA Minister Lin Chia-lung welcomes the statement and lauds the international community for speaking up on the issue, showing the importance they place on Indo-Pacific security.

The PRC's continued military expansionism and use of grey-zone tactics, such as military intimidation, economic coercion, cognitive warfare, and air and maritime intrusions, are aimed at unilaterally undermining the status quo and threaten not only Taiwan but also challenge the peace and stability of the entire region.

Upholding the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific is in the interests of the entire international community. Taiwan will continue to work closely with the US and other like-minded partners to uphold the peace, stability and prosperity of the region.

🗳️ #總統直選30週年 | Taiwan’s Democratic Values—Observations from Foreign Journalist Eryk Michael Smith

On March 23, 1996, the people of Taiwan cast their ballots to directly elect a president for the very first time — a defining milestone in the island's democratic journey. This year marks the 30th anniversary of that historic vote.

American journalist Eryk Michael Smith, who first came to Taiwan in the 1980s as the child of missionary parents and grew up between Taipei and Kaohsiung. Now with over a decade covering Taiwan's news scene, he offers a candid outside perspective: "Taiwan's democracy is underappreciated by the international community."

His observation points to something important: appreciating Taiwan's democratic achievement doesn't have to be filtered through the lens of unification-versus-independence politics. How Taiwanese people built this hard-won system of freedoms deserves to be seen and understood on its own terms.

Marking the 10th anniversary of the forum, political leaders, lawmakers, and prominent scholars from across the Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America, and Latin America convened in Taipei to discuss democratic resilience, Indo-Pacific security cooperation, and supply chain security.

Key Highlights from the Forum:

🔹 President Lai Ching-te: Emphasized that Taiwan will leverage its strengths in AI and semiconductors to build a resilient "non-red supply chain" alongside like-minded partners, while calling on the international community to unite against authoritarian expansion and transnational repression.

🔹 Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao: Stressed that while Taiwan is often seen on the frontlines of geopolitical tension, "we are by no means an isolated island at the mercy of authoritarian forces," but a crucial force defending freedom, peace, and regional stability!

🔹 Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung: Highlighted that on the 30th anniversary of Taiwan’s first direct presidential election, Taiwan continues to deepen its national resilience through democracy. He urged the democratic camp to build stronger defenses against authoritarian encroachment.

🔹 Former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada Hon. Chrystia Freeland: Issued a powerful call for democratic nations to publicly oppose China’s "Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law," warning that it mirrors Russia’s actions prior to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and that democracies must not mince words when addressing it.

🔹 IPAC Statement Handover: The Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) presented a statement to President Lai on-site, demonstrating the unwavering resolve of global democratic partners to uphold the rules-based international order.

In the face of regional challenges, Taiwan will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with democratic partners worldwide to build a safer, freer, and more prosperous Indo-Pacific!
