It’s been just over a month and a week that my Grandfather, also known as my God Father passed away from Parkinson’s disease and dementia. I found it fitting to post this on Father’s Day, to remind us that a fatherly love is as precious as it is limited in our society today.

They called him “Buddy”, however I know him as “Papa.” Coming from an elite Jamaican family, who prospered in the horse racing industry from Jamaica, to Florida as well as Canada, Papa you were a prime example of how financial status and wealth, was never an excuse to let any sort of pride or ego overshadow your humble, God fearing heart. You were the true peacekeeper among the family. You were quiet, however your quietness was loud enough for all to hear. When you spoke, your words shook the room. You had an undying sense of humour, even in your last hours with us in trial and in the flesh. I would say one of your strengths that you carried over to me, was your sense of observation. No wonder you understood horses like no other person had the kind of patience to understand and train such a complex species.

The inner strength you had is something I have a loss for words to describe. However, I noticed that a leadership like yours had been pronounced discreetly, but boldly, because your foundation of Faith is what was leading you. You were not one of glamour, but one of prayer and worship. Your aura was seen not by materialism, but by your character. This is why I am proud that you were chosen to be my Godfather.

You never wanted much, and for that you deserved the most. Although your celebration was not dictated to demonstrate this, I assure you Papa, as I assure my Father’s soul, that in God’s timing, we will grow your family abundantly. I love you, Papa. 🙏🏼❤️🕊️

It’s been 2 weeks today that my Dad passed away of pancreatic cancer. Dad’s words were, “Don’t make me out to be a saint.” A man of humbleness, but tough Love you were, Dad.

I think of all the trouble I caused you through out the years. However looking at these pictures remind me that I wouldn’t be the man I am today, bound by morals and principles that I continue to strive to live by if it wasn’t for your example of what a man is really supposed to be. You taught me how to be the man who loves in a way that doesn’t require expecting anything back. A way that has no possible intention of giving up no matter what. You loved me when I made you proud, however you also loved me when I disappointed you. I understand that I cry for you not being physically present anymore because of the “what if”s.

It was too soon for us. However I heard somebody at your celebration of life say, “in order for us to cross over to the spiritual world, the strongest members of the family must pass through first to guide the rest into God’s Kingdom.”

I have so much more work I must do to be as worthy as you, Dad. And I know you are by my side helping me now. What comforts me is knowing that not only are you painless now, however you also know the full truth of us that you couldn’t see in the flesh. You understand what you couldn’t understand of us while you were here. You see the pain, the struggle, the trails and the strength that we endure and endured in this life that may not be seen or understood by those who are still in the flesh. I can only trust in you now as I trust in Jesus and know that your spirit lives on in your 3 sons.
