🚗 What to Do If the Other Driver Has No Insurance

Being involved in an accident is stressful enough. Finding out the other driver may not have insurance can make it even more confusing. Here are the steps you should take in Ontario:

1. Stay at the scene
Move to a safe location if possible, but don’t leave the scene of the accident.

2. Call the police when required
If there are injuries, significant damage, or other circumstances that require police involvement, contact the police and follow their instructions.

3. Collect information
Take photos and videos of the vehicles, damage, road conditions, licence plates, and the accident scene. Get the other driver's name, contact information, driver's licence details, and insurance information if available.

4. Get witness information
If anyone saw the accident, ask for their name and contact information.

5. Contact your insurance company
Report the accident to your insurer as soon as possible. Tell them that the other driver may be uninsured.

6. Don't admit fault
Stick to the facts when speaking with the other driver, police, or insurance company. Avoid making statements about who was responsible.

7. Ask about your rental vehicle options
