Women Talking is our pick this year for the Book & Film Club.
Miriam Toews’s book and Sarah Polley’s film adaptation explore the terrible consequences of profound gender inequality and examine what it means to fight against it. Set in a remote Mennonite village, the women must decide whether to stay and continue to be abused by their menfolk or leave behind everything they’ve ever known, including their children, in the hopes of finding safety.
